What did you shoot today?

I drove out to pick up Alan, @troy fairweather's dad and took him to my home range. Wrench brought 4 long guns and 1 pistol. He shot a rem 3006, 98 mauser 380 ai a heavy barrel ar build in 5.56, I forget his 4th long gun and a ruger super black hawk 44 mag. I took my 98 mauser 6.5x55. 93 small ring 7x57, m11 savages in 243 win and 223 rem plus my Smith 5904.

Between us we sighted in 4 rifles, my 7x57 and his 3006 had optic issues, but he punches 300 meter and 250 yd steel plates with his 280 as and got a hit at 250 with the black hawk.

I fired my 253 and 223 at same distances 9 rds all hits, then fired his Blackhawk, first time with a 44 mag for me, was a great time at the range, just wish Troy could have come anlong.

That sound you hear is drool hitting my keyboard.....:)

Shot my DMR with the new Meopta 20X I traded Loonwolf for- thats a hell of a scope, though waaaay too much glass for a rather dark 20yd indoor range:
1654131059507.jpg Repeat punching the same .22 caliber hole was child's play with this setup at that distance. I need to get her to the local 300yd outdoor range to really stretch her legs.
Also tried to sight in my $30 Mossberg project gun with its new front globe sight (that cost more than the gun) but the rear peep loosened up on me, so thats back on the shop bench.

Today was Marlin day; my only .22s (rifle-wise) are Marlins, my only Marlins are .22s. The model 60 I bought in the early 90s when I worked at a LGS; it came in as a trade. After a good cleaning, a new trigger-guard (intended for a stainless model, and a buffer, it’s became a workhorse. The 39a was my dad’s. He bought it new in the 50’s; it’s seen some stuff. The attached picture is a young me and him shooting it around 1979 or 80-we were serious about eye-pro, ear-pro and foot-pro then. View attachment 1082357View attachment 1082359
All my Marlins are .22s too, can't say Ive ever shot 'em barefoot though......;)

6 rounds of 180 swagged bullets with 5 grains of 231 in my newly acquired 629-6. yesterday it was 5.4 of universal clays under 12 rounds. the 231 loads were very sedate. bob

wiscoaster:

Your mention of the Beretta PX4 reminded me of my session with a PX4 Compact.

Such a reliable, very ergonomic type with one of the best DA pulls I’ve ever experienced.

If most of my gun interest had not switched into certain rifles, I would gave bought either PX4 type.

Shot my new Henry in 45 colt at lunch today. Took along a Ruger Single Six in .22 for fun. Not sure why I didn't take the Blackhawk as it is in .45 Colt.
I think the rifle in .45 Colt is going to be fun.

Not today, but yesterday I took my CZ75b, Shadow2, and Glock 20 to the range.
Only shot 30 rounds of 10mm, but did burn through about 300 of 9mm in my CZ's. The Shadow 2 has got this terrible 9mm leak. Ammo just poor out the end of it! :)

Took this

and burnt up 100 rounds of 1980's Armscor 22lr. I purchased 5000 rounds of the stuff, for fifty cents a box of 50. I get dry heaves when I see that a box of 100 CCI SV is $10.00. At least we can blame Putin for the cost increase!

and this. Shot up about 50 rounds of Valiant brand, 125 LRN bullets and 5.0 grains of old Green Dot. Shot well and to point of aim, all the way out to 25 yards.Surprising amount of recoil from an Airweight. And each time I pulled the trigger, the front sight was illuminated by the muzzle flash. Great for my call.

I removed the original Colt grips, which are collectable it seems, and installed a pair of grips made in Thailand. The Thai grips are made of pretty wood and have finger grips. For whatever reason, the Trooper shot high with the original grips. And I could not find a taller front sight, the thing has been out of production for decades. But, with 158 grain Valiant LRN and 15.5 grains H110, with a six O'clock or flat tire hold, I was keeping them in the ten ring at 25 yards. I have no idea whether it is the grips, or my flinch.
