Not to long ago I purchased a new to me Springfield TRP. It had a few things I didn’t like, two piece full length guide rod, add on mag well, butt ugly grips and a firing pin that just barely dented primers.
When I originally looked at the piece it had one of the best trigger pulls I have seen on an assembly line 1911. My calibrated trigger finger guesses it to be around 4 lbs. no grit, no slop just perfect.

When you say , “new to me “, I understand that as meaning you bought a used gun. If so, it is difficult to make harsh judgements on what you described.

Even though I own at least 3 SA 1911’s I’m not sticking up for them. I’m actually ambivalent.

Maybe cheap milspec sa would feed any jhp round, my series 70 copy reissue just fed fmj

So I gather from the way you described the overall condition of this particular used gun, the trigger on it was the silver lining in what was an otherwise dark and unappealing cloud.

Never had much luck with Springfield. Every 1911 I have had from them in the past has been a total piece of crap. However this TRP (with the changes I have made) just might turn out to be a keeper.

I've owned two Springfields. One is the "Loaded" model from the Imbel-Brazil days. The other was a "Mil Spec" with a short barrel, also from many years ago. The latter shot two feet low, so I quickly got rid of it. The "Loaded" model has a good trigger, is accurate, and feeds everything I've put in it. I don't shoot it very much anymore because I have other 1911s and I've never cared for the FLGR. One day I'll get around to changing it to the GI-length guide rod.
