Never a good idea to start with an easily refuted lie.

Ars can be used to obtain better weapons if a civil war would breakout. Watched the patriots last night on the Fox Business channel. They had few weapons and pretty much no gun powder but they were eventually able to defeat the greatest military in the world.

"A good roast can help" whom? The trouble with snarky nicknames is that they burn bridges when we need them built.

We all know people who let others do their thinking for them. It's a fact of life these days. I don't think name calling is a good way to gain their support or understanding. Exploring common ground offers more hope. For example, "Did you want to hunt ducks because you got a shotgun, or did you get a shotgun because you wanted to hunt ducks?" "Isn't your duck gun at least as lethal at close ranges? What makes you think they will not be restricted at some point?" The challenge is to get them thinking on their own, not just listen to the 24/7 rants on TV and video. It's a tough go, but critically important to our country as well as our RKBA.

When I was a kid, I was called a "crybaby". I dropped crying.

When I was a kid, I was called a "tattle tale", I stopped tattling.

Later in life I got called a "poor" on the internet forums for buying junk. I later bought quality things.

I'm not saying to bully people. But to get all offended by the term "Fudd" when it perfectly and efficiently describes a generalized idea is getting a little too kumbaya.

There's a time and place for roasting and teasing, just like there's a time and place for deep serious conversation.

That's all I'm saying. I'm not advocating going out and calling everyone a "Fudd". But I'm also saying that we shouldnt act like "Fudd" is hate speech.

Ask all those hunters in New York State that now need a permit for any semi-automatic rifle they own, and it's a felony to hand them to someone else who does not have a permit with that weapon in that caliber.
Capn, I do not disagree with you at all. I'm sure those people now understand the basic idea.
I would like to point to the fact that much of the damage is done BEFORE the damage is done. Leftists cannot spread their destruction of the Constitution, removal of civil rights (private ownership of arms) and other idiotic views until those leftists have been 'normalized' and voted into office.

For instance, presuming Joseph Biden was honestly elected, how many voters knowingly preferred for the economy to dive, encourage employable workers to leave the job market and gas prices to skyrocket? Probably not so many.

SHOT is the biggest firearms trade show in the US. THR itself is 20 years old. I attended SHOT 20 years ago as well as being here when the doors metaphorically opened. The AR15 was already popular.

You aren't the target audience for this article. He doesn't care if You know he's lying.

He's trying to convince all the soccer moms who are out there screaming "Do something!!!!"

He's trying to convince the people who believe Whoopi Goldberg when she says an AR-15 round can turn you into dust or who believe that you can fire an AR-15 on fully semi-automatic.

Because those are the people who are going to vote to disarm the proletariat

I was slow to warm up to AR style rifles, but finally found one I really liked at the Tulsa Gun Show. Was delighted to learn that the guy who built it had a shop a few miles form my home. Visited his shop and eventually had him build one. This is the only rifle I own that I picked the barrel, bolt, trigger, stock, finish color, muzzle brake, etc. It is truly a personal firearm....a real gem. Having it in my home helps me sleep better, should such personal protection become necessary. And, the OP may find this hard to believe, but not once have I felt the urge to shoot up a school.

FUDDs come in all shapes. If you don't like the AR, it just isn't for you. These "I own guns but the AR should be banned" make the irritated hairs on my neck stand up.
the worst are the SUDD’s that think they won’t ever come for their semi auto 30-06 hunting gun. or their A400 extreme Duck Gun

wait till you build your own! it’s literally that easy. That becomes a hobby on it’s own.

The term "Fudd" is derogatory, just like the "N" word. It is not a identifying term but a belittling one, especially as it is used on this forum.

I'm not saying to bully people

This sure makes it sound that way.

There's a time and place for roasting and teasing

Sooooo, like in your case of being a "crybaby", by bullying and calling names you expect to change peoples ideals? Sorry, but that's not how you gain support. At least not from intelligent people. No different than the anti crowd putting negative monikers on our guns, like EBR and Assault Rifle.

You're comparing "Fudd" to racial slurs?

Really??

Let me rephrase: if I tell my buddy "don't be a Fudd bro", it's a fast way of saying "I don't believe in your compromising hunting only view of the second amendment and I feel that your view is very basic and rudimentary".

Humans by nature want to be included in a tribe or accepted or hate conflict. Barring developmental delays or counter-culture.... Yes, negative feedback can correct behaviors in social situations.

There's a time and place

Also, even if it doesn't change behaviors, it still offers a form of resistance to display that people aren't "all in" with popular opinion or "group think" or "echo chambers"

Next time an acquaintance is creepy with a girl, I guess I can't call him "pepe le pew" to convince him he's going too far

Sorry, but IMHO, this kind of mindset/rhetoric is just as anti-gun as the quoted article in the OP. The 2nd is not just about the right to own firearms, but the right to choose what firearm you want. Hard to trash folks for not wanting a AR and then still expect them to respect your choice for wanting one. Lots of folks that own handguns don't own and may actually despise Glocks, or Kel-tecs or Taurus...are they Fudds too? While I own a ton of DA revolvers, I don't own any SAs. Is my first name Elmer? I think it's not the guns themselves some folks despise, but the owners and the corresponding attitudes of some of them that, fellow gun owners despise.

It's easy to make blanket statements, but they are seldom, if ever accurate. The majority of gun owners in America probably do not own an AR style platform. In truth, the majority of them that do not, still respect the choice of others to do so. It needs to go both ways or we are just shooting ourselves in the foot.

There are Fudds that believe AR's should not only not be sold, but all the ones in private hands should be confiscated. I occasionally shoot clays with some.
My usual retort is ".....and when they come for your $20,000 over & under?"
They believe that complete confiscation is not the ultimate goal.

Misguided and nearsighted, yes, but there are many in that boat. What is accomplished by disparaging terminology? Contrary to the 2d grade playground mantra, names do hurt, and they are intended to hurt. These are not terms of endearment.

Firearms were developed for military purposes, and they have been greatly improved in the last 200 years for the same reason. Ask your buddies at the trap club why they are not using flintlocks, as they are more sporting and breechloaders are more deadly.

I don't call them that to their faces. It's kept to civil discourse, but changing their minds is not going to happen, no matter how well stated and logical my points are presented.

Agreed. I only call buddies or people I know goofy names...

I've never called anyone on here a name, even if I think it haha. I'm sure people have names for me too even if it is called The High Road.

But if this keeps up, I'm starting to think everyone is being a "Karen" in addition to a "Fudd". But then again, I'm just a "Troll".

Back to the article...

When does "corporate executive" ever mean something great and trustworthy??

Well most members here are Alpha Giga Chads! … Rock ON people!!!!

That is what I told my friend that I was arguing with . My AR is first and you are ok with that . Are you going to be ok when they ban your semi automatic shotgun and then your pump shotgun that you rabbit hunt with when a crazy person uses one in a school shooting ? He just can’t see that connection or why the 2nd amendment was written and put into our constitution .

You should point out to your friend that is what exactly happened in Australia. No semiauto or pump shotguns there now

A sizeable percentage of the Democrat base are urbanites that don't own cars and don't care about the price of gas.

A sizeable percentage of the Democrat base believes that low end and moderate jobs are beneath contempt and people should not be forced to work if they don't want to. They want the government to support fully anyone that refuses to work.

And a large portion of that group are willing to burn it all down if that results in the socialist/Marxist utopia that they want. So they are most likely happy with what is going on.

Elon Musk said that the government should require special background checks and paperwork to buy an AR-15.
I say that any vehicle that is advertised as being able to travel at greater than twice the normal speed limit should be classified as a racing vehicle and require special permits, safety equipment and extremely high insurance... .

Don’t know what Musk said but a AR15 and any modern firearm is guarantee by our founding fathers, and I car is not. They also didn’t trust themselves with power and knew that check and balance included a AR type commonly used firearm

They believe that complete confiscation is not the ultimate goal.

And there are firearms enthusiasts who have no interest in AR's, and are only interested in hunting arms. Yet they understand the 2A, and it's intent, and have spent much time energy and money supporting the 2A. Insulting them because they don't share your narrow viewpoint, and ignoring all they've done to defend your rights, certainly doesn't reflect poorly on them.

But, hey, we're all in this together.

Oh, well.

Suck it up, buttercup.

Just like you need to learn how to do on the playground.

What is accomplished? Accuracy. Truth. Clear and concise discourse.

None of which are by euphemism - by tiptoeing around trying not to hurt the feelings of someone who quite frankly needs to have his feelings hurt.

One should call a spade a spade. And call a Fudd a Fudd.

I would argue that that is not what is being implied.

Other than just clowning around, Fudd generally refers to those who think the 2A is for hunting and that you only need a bolt gun. It's core beliefs, not just firearm preferences.

We aren't "in it together" when people actively vote and voice opposition to the 2A. It's the whole "I'm a gun owner and I believe in gun control" crowd.

My Fudd-Buddy thinks ARs should be banned and confiscated. He owns a .270 and believes in registration. He's a good hunter and a good shot, but any handgun that isn't a revolver should be illegal because "who needs one anyways".

It's exactly the type of guy the article talks about, hence the whole "Fudd" debate.

The guy worked for a 1911/bolt gun maker as a sales exec and now is speaking out in favor of gun control and using his status as an appeal to authority.

But don't call him a Fudd because we need to compromise and be nice?

Yeah.... Noooo

The nation's political landscape has flipped in recent years due to snark, playing with names, messing with definitions, and using words to say popular opinion.

But again, we can play it as the "nice guy" and continue to compromise expecting everyone to leave us alone and keep losing more and more.

Again, I'm not saying to bully and there's a time and place for tongue-in-cheek nonsense.

But again, this is the internet.

I may be too young, but i do remember distinctly before 2012, we sorta did (at least the people around me) view the AR as sorta a taboo, ominous rifle to own. Nobody in my family expect for a late uncle who was a FFL owned one until after 2012.
That view would have been a pretty extreme outlier in 2012, I think. By that point, the AR was already the top selling rifle in the United States, manufactured by probably hundreds of different companies, and AR’s were already so common at that time that the prohibitionists’ gleeful attempt to ban them after Sandy Hook was a nonstarter, though the ban attempt did kick off the first of the great ammo and magazine shortages of the 21st century due to the sudden surge in demand.

I shot my first AR (Colt HBAR that belonged to a friend’s dad) sometime between 1988 and 1990, IIRC. By 1990 or 1991, our local Walmart was selling both AR’s and AK’s, though I ended up getting a Ruger mini-14 as my first gun instead.

AR’s started to become higher visibility as enthusiasts’ guns by 1989-1990 (I have a Guns & Ammo Annual from 1993 around here somewhere) but AR choices and availability absolutely exploded after 1994, with many new manufacturers entering the market to meet the demand created by the 1994 “ban”. I remember wanting, but not being able to afford, an Eagle Arms carbine in the 1990s, but ended up eventually getting a 2002-imported civilian AK instead, in 2003. I can’t speak for AR mag prices at that time, but surplus steel AK mags were IIRC $5.99 for 20’s and $9.99 for 30’s in 2003. I ended up selling the mini-14 and getting a Rock River AR in 2004 or 2005, but they were already extremely common by that time.
