What's your favorite caliber?

Everyone should own at least one 22 LR. They are cheap to shoot and a lot of fun. It's all I shoot these days but I still have a S&W Model 10 in .38 that has had thousands of rounds through it.

For almost 50 years I've been shooting revolvers competitively. Mostly USPSA Matches and ICORE. Many times at USPSA I'd be the only revolver shooter. Didn't matter I was always there for fun and to beat my times. I must have loaded a few hundred thousand rounds of .38s so it's got to be one of my favorites.

9 mm ranks high because that's what I carry now. It's also what I shot in revolver for the past few years shooting a S&W 929. Now I shoot a S&W EZ9. I still have a couple thousand rounds of 9s so I'm not worried about finding any on the shelf.

My favorite this year, last year or next year?
Defense - 9mm because my SR9 is by far my most accurate handgun
Rifle - 30-06, but it beats me up pretty good so I’d have to say 308
For pure fun - 44 cap & ball

I can always find at least one caliber in the store,44-40 ammo in stock. my hardest to find ammo has been .41 mag.

The past couple of years, the 10mm has been my carry preference, but as soon as I got to reloading - .38/.357 from the GP100 became a favorite shooter. Right behind it is the .44 mag redhawk, because .44 special is magical.

.22lr and .22mag (shocker)
5.56 and 7.62 from an AR pattern (again)
12 gauge from a gas operated semi-auto

I still carry the big 10 from time to time, though in the summer a G26 is just easier to conceal.

I would absolutely love to try a 4.25" 1911 in .38 super automatic one day.

But where can you get .22 short these days?

.22 LR, .45 ACP, 9MM, 5.56 MM, .30/06..

10mm seems to be my favorite right now but I carry 9mm.

@Vern Humphry, Admittedly, the .22 short is relatively expensive and difficult to acquire these days. However, I have been appreciating the .22 short for a LONG time. I have a sufficient stash to keep me and my menagerie of .22 short shooters going for a little while longer.

I'll restrict this to handguns. I have various and sundry of the popular calibers, hard to pick a favorite.
However, the practicality be d***ned, but they find a soft spot i my heart, are the 44 Special and the 30 Luger.

ALL OF THEM and all shotgun guages too.

I prefer my 20 mm, because handguns don’t have stopping power and it’s irresponsible to carry less.

Thanks for noticing my post from over a year ago, things change.
A year ago I did not have a Sig 365, Glock 17, or 34.
A year ago I'd never shot a pistol with a red dot.
If what caliber is getting carried most weighs on favorite, then 9mm would be my defacto pick, now.

38 special

Favorite reloading caliber 38/357.
Favorite store bought caliber 9mm.

I shoot 4 times as many reloads as store bought so I guess 38/357 is the favorite.
My favorite guns influence what is my favorite caliber. But then the caliber influences what are my favorite guns.

They are all fun, but of the ones I have I especially enjoy shooting 44 Special, 38 Special, and 32 S&W Long.

To me, the most fun to shoot is 45 ACP. But I shot NRA action pistol (with a 38 revolver) for 10 years. So I guess you would have to figure that in. At any rate I have two Dillon 550’s one for small primers and one for large. Haven’t purchased any factory center fire ammo for longer than I can remember.

.22LR is becoming my favorite mainly due to ammo prices but I've picked up a nice K-22 and a Browning Buckmark UDX and they both are really fun to shoot. I've been hunting for a Colt Officer Model in 22 but hard to find one that's not exorbitant.

38 special is my next. Love it in SAA clones, Smiths, and again the Colt OM.

I go for the .38 Special as it does all I need a round to do.

I'd say;
.22LR
.32ACP
9MM Luger
10MM

Least when talking semi-automatics.

.32ACP is the sweet spot between a .22 & a 9MM. Also anything beyond the limits of a 9MM the 10mm will do, and you can shoot .40 in your 10mm.

I am buying a .22LR conversion for my G20/29(gunna chop the grip) so it will be much more dedicated for the woods. The G29 grip length will add it's ability to double duty on the street as well.

All I shoot with any regularity is 22 LR and 9mm. 45 ACP is occasional, 40 S&W is rarely, and things like 38/357 is once in a blue moon.

45 Colt.
