Needing a good 1911-22lr pistol for training. Long story short, have to start shooting right handed due to left hand finally giving up the ghost. And since I have a good right thumb, and from my service days of using the 1911, I figured I will go with quality over quantity and just use the 1911.

And no, I don’t want a Ruger 22/45! I saw the Walthers and Blue Line had a couple of nice ones. I have had experiences with GSG 1911 22lr pistols, very nice.

‘Lefty……but not for long……

I have the GSG. I don't have an exact round count I've shot through it, but it's well over a thousand without a malfunction. You won't go wrong with this one.

The Chiappa is cheaply built. But it does work.
Howdy again. I agree, mine is very toyish. But, it does work well and with the stationary barrel is pretty accurate. My magazines seem actually okay, but won’t drop free from my mag well.

I like mine fine enough, but can’t recommend it for the purposes of this thread.:)

I bought a Sig Sauer 1911 .22lr and it was very finicky. These .22lr 1911s suck in my opinion. The finish flakes off, or it jams after a few mags.

I'd prefer a gun made for the 22lr, not a design attempting to fire it.

I am very happy with my GSG, got it not long after it first came out. Works well for an outing, but if you are a lazy bastage like me it does suck as it wants to be very clean. Skip that one time and it will just give you fits. With mine if it stops running it is dirty.

It has run on any "normal" 22 I have fed it, from cheap to expensive, it has shot them all. Fits in my "real" 1911 holster perfect, and the controls are in the same places. Really would buy it again, and there are very few modern guns I can say that about....but I don't own many modern guns.

Most people love them or hate them, I wonder if those that hate them are not managing expectations well.

For me my requirement of 4" plate at 25 is well in its wheel house, and running for 150 rounds minimum, old really can't stand much longer then that. Plus Beep, bang, ting, holster, reset the timer takes a bit of time.

‘LOL, no I clean my weapons after range time. Was raised by a Marine. And you are right, about 150 rounds and mine would get mad and start acting up too. I liked the fact it takes real 1911 grips and fits my holsters also.

Another vote for the GSG (or the Sig version). I have a stock version and a highly modified race version. They do want to be kept clean, every few hundred rounds in my case. Magazines are usually available at gunmag warehouse.

ETA - I probably have 10,000+ rounds through these 2.

Guess that would be a down side, I played a few different games with mine, and the mags are a bit expensive. Plus they have (or at least all of mine do) a plastic bottom to them. I always just took them and stuck them in a pocket or mag holder on the belt, I was afraid of letting them hit the concrete, sure it slowed me down a bit, but I don't move that fast in the first place anymore.

Not sure if a fall from 4' would be a kill move to the mag, I just felt funny about it.

I never wanted one of the Chiappa guns, and certainly would not have spent money on buying one.......so I ended up winning one in a raffle. I have about 1,000 rounds through it. So long as I keep it reasonably clean and well lubricated, it will shoot anything I stuff in the mag. It is decently accurate, has a horrible trigger and is my tractor gun when out baling hay. I have shot several copperheads with it, but they have been at close range. Since I spent $5.00 on the raffle chance, I will keep it until something breaks. I always wanted a Colt ACE, but when I did come across one of the elusive firearms, the owners wanted way too much money.

I have a GSG that I turned into a race gun. I just use it as a range toy but appreciate the mods I did. It is reasonably accurate, shoots everything I have loaded in it including standard velocity ammo and is fun to shoot. The one weak spot I see is the slide release as the notch will wear quickly. I never drop the slide without holding it and pressing the release to prevent wear and tear on the soft slide metal.

Like the Snake guns and most Colts, the ACE has gotten ridiculously priced.

I bought mine mid-80s, $289. Dad had had an original, he sold to pay Dr bill when sister was born. A friend had bought one, when I did. Decided he wanted something else. I bought his and gave to Dad.

The RIA is a good alternative.

I have several different. 22lr pistols and my favorite for range plinking is my Ruger SR 22, this pistols has never failed on me is a great shooter and accurate to boot. I have one with the threaded barrel and shooting it with a can is quiet.

I can appreciate your enthusiasm over the SR22, but it wouldn’t do me any good when I’m looking for a 1911 trainer. Not looking for anything other than that and focused mostly on the Walther and Blue Line or GSG line ups.

Sounds like the GSG is your best bet.
I paid more for a Nelson conversion to put on the receiver of my least used .45 and it is a fine shooter.
I have a 1970s ACE and while it looks good, it is of marginal reliability and accuracy.

Browning 1911-.22 are pretty damn nice.

That they are! Shot one at our range, we had the 22lr and 380 in for a short while at the rental counter. Both were very nice.

Was at Vance’s today picking up a Blue Label Glock and messed with the Walther and a Blue Line again. Saw an ATI version that was very nice too. But thinking I’m going to settle on the Walther in FDE. Felt solid and didn’t have the banner of BS on the slide like the Blue Line did.
Lefty, for a short time more…..

Almost all current production 1911s in 22LR are made by Umerex. They are just re-branded
