I live in Phoenix's East Valley (Mesa) and I'm a black powder cartridge shooter/enthusiast. I'm looking for a shooting buddy, probably who's retired like me so we can get together and shoot on weekdays. I'm getting a little old (73) and have some disabilities so CAS is out and I don't like what it's turned into anyway. And black powder cartridge silhouette is beyond me. If I got down into prone or even setting for the longer distances I'd need several guys to get me back up (LOL).

I shoot single shot rifles from cross-sticks and lever action rifles, all with black powder. I shoot a lot of 45 Colt black powder rounds and recently got back to playing with black powder in a 12ga double hammer shotgun.

Anyone on this board from this area, who would like to get together and plan burning some BP in cartridges, either at Rio Salado or out in the desert once the fire restrictions are lifted, send me a PM and we can trade e-mails or phone numbers.

Dave

That's my kind of shooting!
My circle of friends shoot muzzleloader, mainly flinters.

I would search for shooting events in your area.
Black powder clubs...nmlra events...

Kind of sad that none of the BP cartridge shooters in my area have responded to this. Well, can't say I didn't try.

Dave

Sorry, I shoot BP, but not cartridge, and a little south of you down in Casa Grande. Won't be retired for a few more years, either, but I know a guy up in Mesa who is retired and rebuilds muzzle loaders for fun.

Wish I could but I'm not retired yet and can't shoot on weekdays. Otherwise I'd have responded.

Well keep me in mind John. If you should happen to get some time off during the week, and the fire restrictions are lifted, maybe we could go out to the desert a bust some rocks shooting BPC.

Dave

I will. I do shoot BPC but mostly pistol. Though I need to set up for 45-70 black powder for my trapdoor.

Fire restrictions have been lifted where I hunt (unit 28) but most people aren't willing to drive 4 hours to shoot. I'm a member at Rio, but usually go there when the desert is closed.
