Burris Fullfield E1 vs IV

I'm looking hard at one of the 3-12x56 IV's with the E3 reticle.

Looks to be a pretty nifty general purpose scope to have around, especially for under $250.

They do look like solid scopes. If it weren't for the deals available on E1s I probably would have ended up with one. Not a huge fan of the Made in China aspect, but with Burris's reputation and warranty its a little less concerning to me at least.

Well, might not be as useful at night as the Wraith but looks alot nicer and will be more practical in the daytime. I usually have the ring base screws facing to the right, but had to flip them around this time as the front one might have interfered with ejection. Overall, I definitely like it (as expected since I already had the same scope with a different reticle).

I bought one of the 4-14x ff Ei's with the simple plex. it's a great optic so far. ALMOST as good as my redesigned 4-14x weaver grand slam (to my eyes anyway)

However, the power ring is TIGHT. I called burris, and they said put a hair dryer on the power ring for a bit and it will loosen the grease that sometimes collects in 1 spot during shipping. I tried that, and when it was hot, the ring turned easily, but once it cooled down, it's still hard to turn. a little easier, but still hard. I guess I"m going to have to find a throw lever.

I was going to buy one of these https://www.amazon.com/WestHunter-Riflescope-Switchview-Magnification-Adjustment/dp/B08QS66ST5/ref=sr_1_6?crid=2MPES7HSDBLYO&keywords=throw+lever&qid=1642780370&sprefix=throw+lever,aps,96&sr=8-6&th=1 but they look to go down to 44mm, and of course the burris ring is 43.98mm. I wonder if I could shim it with some strip of electrical tape...... anybody tried that on a scope?

I have to do that fairly regularly since I have piles of caps and none actually fit lol. My FFe1 6.5-20 currently has tape residue on it lol.

As for the adjustment rings being tight....

I talked about this to a Leupold rep one time. He said that the O-rings have to be tight to hold in the inert gases that keep the scope from fogging. Any scope that had free turning adjustments would fog

Dunno if it’s true,it’s what I heard. And, I’ve never personally had a Leupold fog

Seals are seals are seals....loose seal leaky container.

Ive had great "fun" trying to get paintball guns to seal while giving the least resistance and allowing lowest operating pressure.....i can see mass assembled stuff just being done "tight" to be sure

As an update to my tight power ring, I mailed the scope to Burris, they checked it out, said nothing's wri g with it and sent it back. Still can barely turn the ring. :(

Handled another one at the nra show, and it was stiff too. Much stiffer than anything else in the Burris table. And stiffer than any other scope I have ever handled. It's very disappointing, because I rather love the scope otherwise.

My luepold vari xii is immovable below 40 degrees, I really like the scope so I just leave it on 4x

Well, I fell for one, too. https://gritroutdoors.com/burris-fullfield-e1-45-14x42mm-riflescope-200349
I
have had good luck with affordable Burris scopes in the past, and if this one really has the basic Ballistic Plex reticle, I will be a happy camper. Not sure I would care for the E1 reticle. The other two Burris 4.5-14x scopes I have are adjustable objective for parallax, and I would prefer the side focus of the E1. Hope it works as well as my older models, and like them, was made in the Philippines and not China, where the newest Fullfield IV’s are made.

I bought one December of last year when they were $20 more. My brother did also, we are both happy with ours.

Just pulled the trigger on this Burris droptineView attachment 1087820

159.00 free shipping no tax from sport optics. Initial inspection is it's about as good as my ff2.

Edit its made in Phillipines.

I have a Burris 4.5-14x42 MSR, which is similar.

I much prefer the side focus parallax adjustment to the adjustable objective, especially in the field.
I also have one of the Burris M-TAC 4.5-14x42 with 30 mm tube, also with the adjustable objective. Can you tell I have a weakness for bargain priced, yet decent scopes?

I have a FF II 4.5-14X44 with Ballistic Plex...good scope I had on a .270, but sold the rifle. I'll sell it shipped for $100 as I have no use for it. This should probably be in the classified ads so PM me
