For this up coming 2022 Upstate New York deer hunting season I will be buying a new 350 legend rifle.
Most of my shots will be less then one hundred yards.
I will be mounting a scope on it, most likely a Leopold 2X laminated fire dot.
Price range $600 to $750
1st question:
Which rifle to buy.
I do not want to go semi-auto.
I was looking at the Ruger American. The camo stock, blue barrel.
Price $550 to $650.
Comes with either a sixteen inch or twenty-two inch barrel.
Really haven't looked at other options yet.
Just curious what people who are actually useing one like & dislike about the gun in this caliber.

I did buy a nice used H&R Handi-Rifle rifle in 223 that I was going to get rebored to 350 Legend but decided to just buy a new rifle.
I won a pump shotgun from the Camgen Rod & Gun Club month of June daily number drawing and will be taking the cash option, $300 so this is almost half of a new rifle.

Another option would be to have a 350 Legend barrel made for my H&R Handi-Rifle.

Any barrel makers out there that can make one?
I really love my 243 H&R Handi-Rifle for deer hunting and would love that gun in 350 Legend.

I’ve hunted NY from Saratoga Springs north up to Altona, spending most of my time hunting in the shadow of Giant Mountain.

This Savage would be my choice for several reasons. Irons, light, quick to shoulder, easy to convert for kid.

I use a Ruger America Predator model. It has the longer barrel. It is topped with a VX Freedom
3-9x40. I really like this set up. Using the Deer Season xp’s, it’s a tack driver. 2088AFC6-09B4-43EF-BF18-AEFF8FDE8816.jpeg

I have the Ruger American Ranch. Haven't hunted with it yet. Shoots well, accurate. Doesn't feed well, but another user suggested tweaking the mags.

I like the fact it uses AR mags, so I was able to buy several high capacity, which probably isn't any help to you where you live.

The few guys I have talked to that do use the 350 legend loves that caliber.
That's part of the reason to buy one. Just need to decide which route to take.

I recieved a Midway sales ad and they have a sale on scopes. So I'll order one up next week.
I save all of my change all year long and average $425 a year. I have two & a half years of change so it should be around $1,000 plus the $300 from the gun raffle so I'll have plenty enough extra gun money for this project.

I have a Savage Axis II in 370 Legend and really like it. The price is very reasonable.

if you have a Hand Rifle, the 357 Max caliber is the “original” 350 Legend and would still be a great choice. Barrels can be found on eBay from time to time.

Used a .35 rem Contender carbine and discovered that while I like a break open in a pistol, dont care for it in a rifle.

Dont care for the feel of the larger Encore in either.

Have looked at .350 legend. Not an AR fan.
Do have a .35 Rem 760.
Its wonderful

Big Green ought to do a .350 legend 7600 for folks in straight wall states.
I dunno if Accuracy Systems is doing rebarrels in that.

A Ruger #1A in that might be cool. Or maybe just rebore a #1 or #3 .223 by JES

I have a #3 that may be a donor for .35 rem or .350 down the road.

Savage Axis is one action length IIRC.
Not a fan of long actions used for short cartridges.
Think that why i passed on getting a Mauser M18 in .308.
Had an Axis when they first came out. It did have a good bbl on it, but stock and trigger needed work

Looked at Ruger American in .350, 6 5 and. 450.

Dunno why but that bolt seems funky. Anarchy Outdoors sells bolt handles, but the bolt cocking pc bothers me, by looks alone.

The RAR stock seems decent but id prefer a diff pad, dims and material feel. Buddy has the .450 in a Magpul. Much better but also much heavier.....which might be a bonus on a .450. Would think that a detraction on a .350

A Ruger #3 minus bbl band ( a plain #1 style forend ) and a flat pad for the orig stock....in .350 might be a cool single shot

#3 just an oddball. Hate the 1022, mini and #3 curved buttplates

I should take one of my stocks and mod it. Its too 2x4 feeling and will require shaping and filling of plate top screw area. At least itd be usable

My current 3 is in a varnint cal so wears a #1 stock set. Which means the trigger lever to grip space is too small for fingers.

For a deer cartridge one would need to grip it in conventional manner IMHO, hence the fix to the orig stock. Or have a smith change to #1 lever.

21 or 22" stainlesss bbl on a #3 w plain wood and pad, .35 rem or .350.legend. slap a Leupold low power variable on it..

Mine may be headed that way

I like the reply you guys are sending in.
I have a couple of months to buy what ever I decide upon. There isn't that many options out there in this caliber.

I have 2 Ruger Americans I am 100% satisfied with, 300 BLK and 6.5 CM. If I was in a straight wall state, I would get another in 350, but that's not required anywhere I hunt. Which may explain the availability of that caliber in stores around here.

Guy I know loves his RAR .350 Legend.
Took 2 deer cleanly last yr, both under 100 yards.
My LGS has kept a decent supply of the WW ammo on hand.
It is cheaper than .35 Remington.

If you like the Handi-Rifle, have the barrel bored and stroked to your .350L. Or find another barrel for it, and have it ".350 Legened". I believe there are plenty of people out there who do that. Of course the ejector will have to be modified. Find a barrel in .357mag or Max, and it would be a simple re-chamber with only some minor tweeking or modification of the ejector. Or does the .350L have an odd bore size?

A single shot has a lot to offer. They are (usually) light. You can have a medium to long barrel, and still have a short rifle. With the ejector, the Handi, or any single shot, can be reloaded VERY quickly. Follow up shots are over-rated, especially if you don't rush your first shot.

Not sure why one would choose a 180 grain bullet over a 200, for deer, in a .35 caliber, but pick your own poison I guess. !!

I shoot beavers with the cartridge rather than deer. This involves trying to hit a moving dollar bill at 50 yards at night. An American Ranch is a good choice.

I bought a 223 H&R Handi-Rifle for the purpose of converting it over to 359 Legend, but love shooting it as a 223.
I checked on buying just a barrel to convert but they want close to $400 then it will cost another $250 to rechamber it to 350 Legend.
I can buy a whe 223 H&R rifle for the same price then have that barrel rechambered.
Or just buy a new rifle for around $600.
But I love the H&R single-shot 243 I have. One shot - one kill. Three years between myself and my brother 14 deer died from that rifle.
I gave up on carrying a heavy bolt gun or semi - auto.

I'll have to go around and check these two single shots out and see if I like the feel of them.i just checked out gun broker and they have several CVA rifles listed. $365 for blur and $385 do stainless.
There were no Henry single shot 350 legend rifles listed.

I looked around a bit myself last night after sugessting the henry, but i didnt find the.350 version in stock anywhere either. Ill keep poking.

Yeah the Henry. It sure is a nice looking rifle. I've never seen one in real life though. Yeah, if Henry made one I'd snatch it up.

I'll call Henry up on Tuesday and see if they are making them.
I liked their 1/2 hour sales show he use to do.
