Who Makes The Best 10mm Pistol?

Does the 4 inch barrel M&P or 3.8 inch barrel XDM elite give more recoil vs the their longer barrel counterparts? I'm looking to get a new 10mm and torn between XDM and M&P. I just love M&P and how it feels, but XDM makes true ambidextrous firearms (i'm a lefty) while the M&P requires moving the mag release (the slide stop is now ambi, so good on you M&P). XDM elite had the edge with their triggers, but with M&P's new trigger, that isn't the case anymore. Input on recoil is appreciated especially since I have not fired the 10mm on anything shorter than a 4.6 inch barrel. Especially in terms of acquiring sights on follow-up shots.CH

I honestly feel there’s not much difference in recoil between the different barrel lengths. I one thing I’m kind of having issues with is inadvertently locking the slide back on the ambi slide lock XDM Elite. I have to position my left thumb a bit differently to keep that from happening like I do on my PPQ M2’s. I’m a lefty as well and am thinking of modifying the XDM Elite to remove that right side slide lock.

I am jumping on the Glock bandwagon. I have had a 20 for about 15 years and it has been a great pistol. I have hunted hogs in Texas with it and taken it to Alaska. It runs, is easy to clean, and has a proven record. I know there are a lot of other choices now, but it is hard to be the 20.

You need a 40 :)

I'm not really interested in having one, due to the co$t to fire it and lack of need. Anything I need to put a hole in will respond just fine to 40 or 45 ACP - and I own both. If I felt I was going somewhere that more power might be needed, I would get a Glock 20 with night sights.

I believe the best 10mm pistols are the Sig P220s. Good trigger, fully supported barrel, enough weight to absorb some of the recoil.
I would choose the Ruger GP-100 for a revolver.

I have the Glock, SA, S&W, and several 1911s.

The one thing I have decided I do not like about the Glock G20.4, is the magazine release. It just doesn't seem quite as secure as the standard frame pistols G22/G22/G33 (what I have). It feels like the magazine has more room to move around in the well, and this seems to result in the magazine release not needing to be depressed quite so far for the mag to drop.

I shaved mine down to avoid accidents.

I keep thinking that I want a 10mm. My brain keeps telling me that what I want is one of the Magnum Research 1911s in 10mm if I ever find one. What I don't really know is if this is a good idea or not.
I would definitely take a Sig 220 also if I ever find one in my price range but that also doesn't seem likely.

For me it's the Glock 20 Gen 4.
I bought mine 5 or 6 years ago. Out of the box it was nearly perfect for me. Installed the small beavertail back strap an it was even better.
Has reliably fired everything I fed it including 40 S&W ammo.
It also carries nice for me IWB.

Lack of need, not familiar with that term.

I would love to say that the Springfield TRP 10mm with the 6" barrel is the best, but the truth is I don't know as this is the only one I have bought in this caliber and is superb. Judging by the number of posts on this thread the term "BEST" is very relative to personal preferences so a little discrimination will be subjective. Otherwise I don't believe you can make an error when you select from the brands and models people have chosen. It is now a question of what you like and how you plan to use it. For me it was a simple fact that I always wanted a 1911 with a 6" barrel in 45 ACP, but instead saw the TRP but it was a 10mm, and figured it would be a great back up gun in the field when hunting.

I’ve only used a Sig P220 in 10mm. It was very nice and shot dead on for the one round I tried. The owner had just sighted it in. The large hole near the center is the P220 shot rested from 25 yards. The owner sighted it in dead on evidently If I wanted a 10mm, that’s the one I’d want BBF2460E-CF20-4A40-BEF0-CC164C918B66.jpeg

For me, glock. Not fancy, slim or good looking, also has a mushy trigger and questionable ergonomics. So why is it the best? - it just works. Most folks don't care if their glock gets scratched up or ends up in the mud ect.
I know a few other companies make polymer framed striker fired 10mm pistols but in my experience they're less reliable and more complicated . the gripzone dudes will never get my money because I hold a grudge and the s&w has some issues, others sacrifice capacity.
My use for a 10mm is outdoors activity like camping or hiking in the Midwest or south east, a glock is a gun I wouldn't think twice about keeping in a holster while it's raining and not doing anything cleaning wise in a damp tent or rafting - try that with a 1911.
Nothing special about the g20 and that's the point , if something we're to happen and my g20 got destroyed I could go grab another for $500 or whatever and carry on. This isn't a beauty contest and taking an expensive and more complex firearm into the woods for hard use doesn't make sense to me. Keep it simple and use what works. For me it's a g20 if there's nothing big and toothy around. If I'm in an area with bigger critters a revolver is ideal for me but out this way the most dangerous thing in the woods is the 2 legged varmint.

I’ve been shooting 10 mm since the beginning, with Bren Tens, the original gold standard.

Every new Ten I bought was compared to the Bren 10 until I retired them all. At that time, the Delta/1911’s , Witness, S&W (1000 series) and Glock did not compare. However, the Glock had the edge due to capacity.

I own most of the common Tens, but have yet come across the SW MP and SA 3.8 to buy.

I am older now and have all but destroyed my hands, wrists, and elbows shooting magnums most of my life, thus my judgement leans more to control and soft shooting rather than joy from recoil.

Having said all of this, here is a short summary of my favorites.

My Glock is somewhat custom, but it’s just meh in comparison to others.

I expected the SA 4.5 to be similar, but was pleasantly surprised how much I enjoyed it.

Now I had high hopes for the Witness, but it did not meet expectations, but it is a keeper. However, I am surprised to say that the plastic SA edges it out for me.

For me, the most pleasant shooting Auto is the SiG 220. I’m not much on Sigs even though I own more than a few, but this 22o rocks!

I only have 3 10 mm revolvers , the SW 610 and Ruger SRH are both equally a joy to shoot. The SRH edges out the SW just a tad for comfort.

Even though the Ruger Match Champion is third place, it is no slouch, it is a keeper.

Sorry if I left anyone’s favorite out, but these are the ones I enjoy the most for reasons mentioned.

Don't see any love here for the Delta Elite. Rock solid 10mm platform.

I have two Deltas and one Colt special edition, all non railed. To me, they don’t quite measure up.

But I bet that railed model of yours is much nicer to shoot. If I come across one in the wild for sale, I’m willing to take a gamble.

I've also used 10mn for many years. A LE buddies duty Glock 20 was the first semi auto in fired in my life back in school. Had to have one. I Used it first for whitetail and then for carry (ive long since went back to 40 for carry, the follow ups are just faster and the 29 is pretty big compared to a 26/27) Started with a Glock 20. Then a 29. Then a blued Delta. Then a witness. Then a bren ten. Then a newer stainless Delta. Then a 1006 and a 610 or a Kimber right around that time. No idea which came first of those. Then a glock 20 I made into a 6 inch hunting gun with a KKM and stainless heavy recoil spring setup. Then a 220. Probably more along the way. Still have most of Them. The only one I bought in the past 10 years was the 220. I've wanted a mk 23 in 10mm for 20 years but still no joy from HK. The only one I MAY pick up now is a 320. But idk about that one. I have a 45 and 40 in the 320 that I like.

I ordered 1k-10k rounds at a time back when BVAC and Georgia arms were about the only affordable choices. They were actually cheaper than components to reload even if they were barely up to 40 S&W levels. Saved up my brass and reload on a progressive that is set up permanently for 10mm. The two Glock 20s have more rounds through them than all my others combined. Many tens of thousands of rounds. Probably 50% were 200 grain at 12-1250 depending on barrel. Mostly xtp over blue dot. The only issue I had was with the hunting Glock the mag catch wore to the point that a stout 200 grain load would cause the mag to fall out . 10 dollars for a new catch and a spring and the gun has gone another several thousand with no trouble.

Id vote for the Glock 20 (ergonomics be damned. Lol) for the best 10mm. It has the longest continual production (maybe the only 10 thats been produced the entire time) was the most issued for duty of all the 10s. And in all that time has had no complaints or issues (ergonomics be damned). Mags are cheap and readily available ( find a spare for a bren 10). All the parts are still mass produced and Glock parts are stupid cheap too. Full disassembly and reassembly can be accomplished by a child too. Just a simple and robust gun. There are a million out there too.

My second most fired is my stainless delta from around 2010ish. I killed many white tail with that one. But still only has a few thousand through it. Very low compared to my Glocks.

Change the recoil spring assembly (10 bucks from Glock) every few thousand rounds and the gun will last forever.

I fired a couple of Glock 10 mm. I expected More of a recoil then it exhibited and more flash, but I didn't find it uncomfortable at all. It's made me want to buy one, but I'm having a hard time talking myself into another caliber.

For me my best shooting 10mm is my Ruger Vaquero. The DW is no slouch, but the Ruger feels like I am shooting .38 wadcutters and it is accurate. The brass is FULLY supported in this revolver. ;)
