How light of a hammer spring can one put in a Ruger security six and still fire reliably?I put a 14 lb spring in it and cant tell much difference from the factory spring.this revolver is used only at the range, not for self defense.Im looking for as light a double action as I can get with reliable firing.

The weight of the DA pull is also determined
and guided by the power of the trigger
return spring, not just the hammer spring.

Did you get a Wolf or Wilson spring kit?
They have several options.
Just go to a lighter weight trigger
return spring and see how that works.

Got the wolff spring set, only had one choice of weights from wolff.I'll check out wilson.

In the meantime snip off a coil or two from the replacement
trigger return spring. See how that works out. (I KNOW,
some will scream never never never do that to a gun's
springs. Do it any way. You said it's a range toy.)

The mainsprings Wolff offers for the GP/SP/SRH will also work in the Six Series. When I had my Speed Six I put in the 9lb mainspring and it worked, however, it had been tuned by a gunsmith and firing pin protrusion set to 0.055". The latter plus endshake and headspace will govern what weight spring works in a given gun along with choice of primers. Besides the 9lb mainspring Wolff offers, 10 lb, 11 lb and 12 lb mainsprings.

I snipped a bit off the spring and shot it today.way better double action trigger.

As long as the trigger return remains fairly
snappy, you should be good to go.

Snipping too much off a spring will
result in a sluggish or slow return
and cause trigger reset to take
much longer.

You also might
short stroke the trigger if you try
to go too fast in DA.
