I've been using my gp100 6" loaded with 158gr flat nose stays within arms reach while I'm in the house.

Do my fellow governor fans mind sharing what defense loads you go with?

Lots of informal testing and then watching ballistic tests other people do led me to the federal 410 buck if you can find it.

I would not want to stand in front of the Hornady critical defense or Winchester pdx rounds though. I've read of a few actual self defense shootings that used the latter. Over in one shot, bad guy down for the count but survived. Works for me.

I used to keep three buckshot and 3 45 colt jhp, best of both worlds. Right now just back from the range I have it all full of the handgun buck with the last shot a Winchester hp. My Governor loves cowboy loads, so I was considering loading a few flat point lead 45 colts.

For reload I keep 45 acp in moon clips, right now it's the poly Ruger arx rounds. Haven't seen or heard much about them.

686 loaded with 38 Special +p hollow points, .357 Golden Sabers in the speed loader. I go camping every year in black bear country, the 686 comes along with .357 158 gr JSP’s. It’s just an extremely versatile handgun, I’ve shot many thousands of rounds thru this one, it’s accurate and fun to shoot. F6CC995D-6CEB-42A7-AE4A-45C1C40032A6.jpeg

My Governor is loaded with the aforementioned Federal .410 buckshot load for handguns. I liked a couple of videos I saw demonstrating their performance (one, by Jerry Miculek, demonstrated penetration; the other video demonstrated grouping at various distances).

I have the PDX .410 rounds also, but went with the Federal. The PDX rounds were a lot of fun at the range, however. :)

For reloads, I have a couple moon clips of .45 ACP +P hollow points -- I can't recall the brand, but it was one of those "premium" defensive rounds, FWIW...

On page 5 I said I don't use a handgun for HD but a short barrel shotgun loaded with #4 Buckshot. While I still use the shotgun I have now added a handgun, it's a pre-model 10 loaded with the FBI Load. (158gr LSWC/HP .38 Special +P) I'm very fond of that revolver and the ammo too. It's a very accurate combination for me.

Model 67 S&W in the nightstand and a mossy 500 12 gauge riot gun by the nightstand.
Hard to beat a K frame S&W or Ruger security/speed six for that duty.
