I went into a gun store yesterday, big letters "NO Loaded Firearms". Huh? This is in a 2a friendly open and concealed carry state. This is just like all the nonsense laws we have already. Anyone up to no good is not going to care if there is a sign saying NO Loaded Firearms. Just like the laws we have. If something is illegal, criminals aren't going to care it illegal, after all they are CRIMINALS!.

It's their store. They can make the rules. I wouldn't worry. I'll bet all theirs are loaded. Don't go there if it really bothers you.
It doesn't bother me that much, I wont stop going in there because of it. Its more the age of fake news, liberal liars and no logic..

The LGS I go to got tired of people taking their firearms out and waving it all around to show it to the owner or other customers. It was a small number of people that did that but like always, there is now another rule.

Theres always "that guy", and there seem to be quite few of them anymore. Seen them in shops, gun shows, etc. Some people just dont get it.

A number of the shops around here have signs on the door telling you to leave the gun holstered and youre good. No loaded guns otherwise, and why would it be anyway?

Well one option would be to just buy the business and change the sign more to your liking. Another option is open your own shop across the street and make a sign saying loaded firearms welcome. A third option is simply do not frequent the shop since they apparently are not in agreement with your thinking. Their shop and their rules, that simple.

They may mean for trade in or guns or transfers someone wants to sell to the LGS.

I suspect that this is what it is in reference to. I once went to a pawn shop, asked to see a detachable magazine-fed SKS that was on the rack. The employee handed me the rifle. The first thing I did was pulled back on the charging handle and saw rounds in the magazine. I told the employee that it was loaded and to eject the mag so I wouldn’t chamber a round and he said something along the lines of “What? We cleared it when it came in.” He said that a few more times as though saying it would make it true. He and his fellow employee were extremely embarrassed. They’re very fortunate that nobody chambered and fired off a round, possibly in fling damage/injury/death.

My story aside, one would think that people would have the sense to unload a firearm prior to trading or selling it, but that is not a safe assumption and is likely the reason for the sign.

I’ve had customers bring in loaded guns many times and not know they were loaded. A friend saw a lady unload her pistol prior to bringing it in by firing it repeatedly at the ground in the parking lot. So IMO it’s a sensible sign. A properly concealed loaded CCW won’t run afoul of that sign anyhow -don’t ask don’t tell.

Post #14 bears repeating again IMHO. A REAL IT REALLY HAPPENED EXAMPLE FOLKS...

Let's all remain safe. When I taught Hunters Safety the N** had a classic old fogey poster showing the hunter and a rifle charactured as a person, captioned something along the lines of ''You can't think, so I'll think for you / or both of us.''

It's probably not intended for people who are intentionally up to no good, but rather for the idiots (and there are lots of them) who will take their loaded weapon into the store to get a holster, or repair or whatever. Hang out in a gun store for an hour or so and you're almost guaranteed to see some of the most unsafe, ignorant gun handling imaginable. It's worse than a Hollywood movie sometimes.

Back when I had a pawn shop I had a similar sign on the door. I sure didn't want anyone waiving a loaded gun around at me or other customers. Graf and Sons reloading Supplies also has a similar sign. But Graf's sign does state that a holstered weapon is fine as long as it stays holstered. Same with Cabelas too. This is for safety reason when people bring guns in for sale/trade or repairs.

Because us gun shop workers are tired of people walking into our shop with weapons, roaming around the shop, not caring who or what they are pointing it at while they wait their turn, more than likely with their finger on the trigger, and then we find out the darn thing was loaded the entire time.

We could care less about your CCW, it's not about criminals, it's about morons.

They know they cannot prevent the actions of criminals. However, they have undoubtedly had some friendly persons gun handling incident(s) and feel like that is the only part of the equation that they can control. In other words, this isn't about the criminals. It is about the good guys, but those with terrible gun handling skills.

I don't know how you handle it. I wouldn't last 5 minutes before telling someone off.
I've never been in a gun store where I didn't witness both employees & customers getting swept.
Maybe it was just pulled out of the case. Doesn't matter.
Maybe it was just handed to you by an employee. Doesn't matter.
If I ran a gun store, I'd have HUGE signs posted inside & out listing the rules of firearm safety, with a line at the bottom stating "absolutely no exceptions". The first time you muzzled someone, out the door you go.

Why do you ask this here?
Why didn't you ask the gun store owner, or manager?
This thread will go into a lot of nonsense speculation, that is all.

By the way, property owners do not make laws on their property, not even ordinances, but they can set forth rules.

I am to the point that when I bring a gun into a shop to sell or have work done, I unlatch the case, turn it to face the employee, and have them open it. I have seen so much idiocy in such places that I consider it a gesture of kindness, and it rarely goes unappreciated.

Sounds like a shop that has seen one too many ND in the store.
Plenty of reasons to have such a policy
Now, enforcing it is like to be dicey.
But, as with the range of various State laws on Trespassing, it does give the shop operators the ability to eject someone "for cause" if needs must.
