A substitute for H 4831

I use H 4831 in my 280 and 260, the 280 is for hunting , 260 is target shooting with hopes of shooting 500 yards soon. I have used bullets from 123 to 140 in the 260 have not settled on a bullet yet. H4831 is hard to find so I am inclined to change to something else that may be easier to find, would like something close to 4831 and have the temperature quality of the 4831. I normally have a large stock pile of supplies to get through shortages, but I got the 260 during this shortage. May try ramshot hunter but don't see much about it.

It sounds like you already know that IMR 4831 is quite a bit different and not even close to a 1:1 swap. Its not temperature insensitive either.
 
You may want to check your local suppliers. H4831sc has been showing up pretty regular locally. Have picked up as much as I wanted.
 
RL22 is probably the closest replacement for H4831. The newer 4451 might work too.
IMR7828 is a tad bit slower,might work too.
My .260Rem is very partial to RL22...
 
From what I'm told the fairly new IMR4955 is close to H4831 but you will need to see if it does a similar job.

The newer IMR & Winchester powders are usually more available since they try to push the new stuff to develop a following.
 
My .280 with 150 gr pills loves RL19, but good luck finding that too.

I have a bottle of H4381sc I bought during the worst of this last s#|t show. But I could only get 1 due to the limit at the LGS so I’m selling it to a friend. How much? I told him to price it at MidwayUSA and that’s the price I’ll sell it although I probably paid more at the LGS.
 
I haven't used h4831 but have used hunter in 243 win and 7mm08. Got decent velocity and accuracy. Hunter however isn't as temp stable as 4350 or likely 4831, got so.e pressure signs and groups opened in the upper charge range closer to max, settled on charges about 1 gr below max.
 
4451 and 4955 would probably be the closest ones I can think of, 4451 is closer to 4350 in burn rate, but I've hade no issues and it's been stable enough for my temp swings, 4955 I haven't yet played with, really if 4451 doesn't do it I'm usually into h1000/retumbo burn rates, I used to play with 4831sc but kinda moved on....

You might try imr7977. In my limited experience it's closer to h4831 than h1000.
I've used H1000. It was accurate. But I have short barrels on my 280 AI and 260. So I moved on.
 
H4831 is a single base powder or AR2213SC, as it's called in Australia.

Newer double based powders will have Nitroglycerin.

I would watch for an 8 pound container of H4831
