Your Favorite Rifle

I have an old savage 110 from my grandfather in the greatest of deer hunting calibers (270 win) that would have to be pried from my cold hands. The chamber had rusted a little so I rebarreled it to 270 with a 1/8.5 twist and have a boyds stock since the original wood had warped so bad that it impeded the barrel floating. Something that was rode hard and put away wet has turned into a very nice rifle.

Should also state im planning on working up some heavy for caliber 160gr loads
This is before the rebarrel. I went with a 24 inch, added a leupold scope, bedded the stock and don't shoot with the bipod.

My newest would also be my favorite, a Ballistic Advantage build AR10 pattern .308.

No special story or history, and I’ve got several AR15s that I thoroughly enjoy as well, this one is just a touch more fun. Maybe it’s because it’s a .308? I dunno.

I have a few cheap bolt guns too, but they’re just there. One day I’ll drop some coin and get a good one, and maybe my choice will change. 6EE044DC-6988-4332-83B2-B91B7B1878ED.jpeg

Favorite for purpose? For fun is my M16A4gery with handle sight. It’s fun to me to shoot as far as I can with the iron sights, which are surprisingly sophisticated.

For tinkering and reloading it has to be my 30-30 Marlin 336. I’ve switched it over to cast and if I try paper patching it will be the one to use.

Cheap fun is my Marlin 60 set up for 200 yard shooting. Challenging and rewarding even if I’ve only done it once.

At present, my most favorite rifle is an AR-15 chambered in 204 Ruger with a 26” barrel and a side charge bolt. Good medicine for prairie dogs.

But, I have some variations on this thing. Most include heavy, 24” barrels. All are AR-15 type rifles.

I have a 22x6.8 SPC rifle. More oomph and flatter, tredjectory than 223 Rem.

Also, I have a 22 Nosler upper which is similar to the 22x6.8. Either make a good beginning platform load for a primo 223 round differing from existing rounds.

I don't think I have one. I am trying to think if I fell on hard times what would be the last to sell....and really, can't think of one.

If I had to pick I would say a Mk II, I don't shoot it much anymore and have others that get far more trigger time, but that was the first new in the box gun I bought.

This is a fine rifle, and I have much finer rifles in my collection, but none have greater sentimental value because I bought it when I was 15. It was my first high power target rifle and had been tuned and fine honed by a military armorer who tuned rifles for the Army Rifle team. It's the slickest working '03 I've ever felt and has a Mashburn trigger. I paid $75.00 for it, back when that was serious money, and shot about a jillion cast bullets with it like those in top pic. It's the last gun I will ever part with DSC_0138 (2).JPG 21A_2384 (2).JPG 21A_2389.JPG 21A_2394 (2).JPG SPG03-1.JPG 21A_2400.JPG .

Now that is a rifleman's rifle.

Ruger Guide Gun in .375 Ruger. It feels good, looks good (at least to me), shoots a powerful cartridge, and takes a nice photo in nature.

Not pretty, not fancy, but it's my go to rifle if I'm hunting meat. 1970 vintage Rem 700 ADL 30-06. It even has the crappy impressed checkering. A friend has a beautiful '03A3 Springfield that I want. But he has to die before he will give it up.

I don't have one favorite; lots of options for different applications. That said, if I had to give them all up but one, I'd probably keep this Remington Model 7 in 7mm-08. It's about the perfect GP hunting rifle. It doesn't usually wear the bipod; it's just there to hold it up for the photo.
