Marlins 39A

I've said before on here that when we have our family .22 shoot-offs, none of the many custom 10/22's concern me. My dad, brother, brother-in-law, and a couple cousins have some really nice ones...but I normally outshoot them all. If dad brings his 1960's 39A along, I know I'll have my hands full. If my brother ever finds the right scope mount for his late 30's version, I suspect it'll be another contender.

I love my Marlin 39a’s . So much so that I have set out on a quest to amass enough to leave one to each of my grandchildren. My 14,13, & 12 year olds are already big fans, and have begun to whisper to me which guns they would like to have from PawPaw’s collection
My 1952 Marlin is a designated squirrel / rabbit gun for old guys with failing eyesight ( Me ) Because it is scoped it is easier for someone with limited skills like myself to put together good groups.

Now all I have on this rifle is a cheap Simmons 2 x20 pistol scope ( long eye relief ) , because I don’t need a lot of distance for squirrels. It does very well with many different brands of ammo, but it seems to like Aguila super extra 40 grain sub sonic the best.
These groups were shot this past weekend just for this thread from a steady picnic table on my back deck at a wood pile by the fence line 41 yards away. ( only safe shooting direction at the house) These are cherry picked groups, there was no wind, and I had a bag under the barrel to keep me steady, so the groups are representing the rifle not the shooter. That being said I have always seen exceptional accuracy out of every 39a I have ever owned, and continue to believe that in the hands of a better marksman than myself these little rifles can be amazing.

These are the entire tube mag 16 rounds each.

Love them
I have an 1897, model 97 & 39a. All basically the same gun just earlier versions. My 39a was made in 1957 and is in like new condition, I had to give the huge cost of 500 rounds of 22lr minimags for it back in the Obama days. Wish another deal like that would come around.

Can’t add much to the conversation other than to say I love my 1960-manufactured 24” 39A; it’s a joy to shoot.

Before I got into the suppressor game, it was my quiet rifle of choice. When paired with CCI CB 22 Longs, it’s basically as silent as a non-suppressed firearm can be.
