Hunting with A M1A

I used one in afg early on for some applications. It can absolutely be done, but it depends on the type of hunting you are doing. Since I do a lot of my hunting at moderately close ranges from ladder stands, sometimes support just isn't there, and windows for opportunity are often short, so for me a light bolt action sporter or lever gun is usually a better answer for the 1 shot I will hopefully get the opportunity to fire. The additional bulk of something like a heavier military style autoloader, and the kind of "loud" safety on a M14 based rifle isn't helpful for an offhand shot.

We use em down here in Fl for coyote control 168gr hornady hp 38.5 gr 4895 rock solid mount and a 3x9 scope widefield we got a tree house set up so like shooting off a bench and with cattle in the field you want to know where that bullet is gonna end up.

I have used mine for deer. works good as log as you remember to set the sight back to 200 yards. Otherwise you will shoot right over the top of them with a 600yard setting at 85.

They make 5 round magazines, if that's an issue.
Side of the receiver is tapped for a single-screw scope mount (the B-Square one that engages the stripper clip bridge is worth the extra bucks) will let you use glass.
Most hunting .308 ammo will run without issue.
It's a long, ungainly beast to try as get through brush, though.

Not an MBA but an m1 garand. Shot a decent 8 point with it.

I hunt and carry an M1A, most days.
I find the peeps are better with my eye than the open v on my M-39's.

I use an M1A with PMC Bronze 150 grn.
Ive used other ammo, but PMC Bronze is excellent and I zero at 200 yards, as I live in the great white open.

Love my M14s for range work but I just don't feel like lugging one around in the field for hunting...

I’ve used my M1A bush rifle for deer hunting.
Once.
They are heavy and scope mounting is not ideal unless you use a cheek pad.
It works but I wouldn’t do it again.

Jumped a white tail with mine. 1 shot on the move. Quit while I was ahead as it is really too heavy to heft around hunting...
