Had the chance to pick up a brand new unfired DW 715 & figured IOFM so I made the deal. Came with 2-1/2”, 4”, 6”, 8” barrels, EKW muzzle brake & three other grips. I have a 15-2 pistol pack & everything is compatible, had some green fiber optic front sights that I swapped in. I’ll think about making it a safe queen right up to when I shoot it next weekend.

I'm with kBob. I have never found a Dan Wesson in any shape, form, or fashion in any of the gun shops in my area since I decide I wanted one of the 22 LR guns years ago. My LGS has had a 15-2 pack with no gun for years and no one has brought in a pistol to sell or trade. He recently asked me if I wanted sell my gun and I gave him that "Are you crazy" look. Then we both laughed. T/C Contenders are rare, DW's like do-dos.

I know they were popular with the silhouette shooters back in the 70's-80's but like you say-just don't see 'em available. I'd like to get one in 44 Mag, who knows if/when I'll ever see one of those.
The late 70's 15-2 I have seems to have a smoother trigger but need to shoot the new one some to break it in so I can compare apples to apples. The new CZ era case is sure a long ways from the nice old padded cases they used to come in for sure & no patch or belt buckle either.

Very nice pistol packs. If I realized how much I would eventually spend on barrels when I bought my first DW 15-2 I would've bought a pistol pack. Did DW make any other changes besides incorporating the cylinder stop as part of the side plate on the 715 vs 15 stop being pressed in?

I kick myself whenever I see the crazy prices barrels go for now. I made a lot of money on a box of DW parts I bought on impulse at a going out of businessgun store almost 30 years ago, but nothing like I would now. I have a 4" and 6" barrel for all three of my 15-2's/715, but only a 6" for my 44. There was a couple of brand new 2.5" shrouds and tubes in that box, a new 8" 44 shroud and tube, and a couple of slightly used 6' 15/715 shrouds and tubes. And a ton of parts. I got them all for $50! The dying of cancer owner took my money and said, "Don't open it in here, wait until you get outside!". I did and I was very happy. I kept what I thought I needed as far as parts went, but sold all the barrels and shrouds, and a "frankengun" that I made out of the parts in the box. All in all, I made over $500 for a $50 investment.

The only other difference I've noticed is they've added an overtravel set screw behind the trigger. Not sure about the internals being changed any from the old design.

Nice! Those are always going to be grail sets for DW fans, you scored a nice one.

Mine is a 1990’s era Monson 15-2 VH set. As much as I love the kit, I do wish they were the V shrouds. While the weight makes them easier shooters, the VH ones really are heavy to tote.

My set came with the tool, front sights and extra grips. No patch or buckle though.

I found a lone frame on GB that I got fairly cheap, and added an EWH 3” VH shroud back when they still made them.

I also picked up a .22 6” V, and CZ sold a 4” VH for it. That buy doubled its usefulness.

Congratulations on finding that set to add to your collection!
