This weekend my granddaughter and I shot and worked the upper Midwest rimfire challenge match we shot ok for the little practice both of us had this year. while browsing the vendors that had tents setup I ran into one who had the exact 10/22 barrel I have on order sitting on his table. so after chatting for a while I mad a deal on the barrel and some other stuff I "needed". On the way home my GD saw the box and asked what it was, after looking at it she got the look they all do when they want something. I said No maybe you will get one for Christmas. After we got home she asked where the screwdriver set was. My gun room is tore apart because of mold. I told her and went back to finishing supper. A little while later she cam upstairs with her rifle and you guessed it sporting my new barrel. So one again she managed to make off with my upgraded parts. Oh well at least she won't run off with my new trigger. She already has one.

I think it’s great that’s she’s interested in shooting and guns at that age!

I wonder if you could take basic gunsmithing together at the NRA Summer Gunsmithing Program. She'll probably have a blast.

My bench-metal instructor taught his children how to operate a lathe and milling machine. They are still children too.

She could take her trigger group and learn how to do a trigger job. At Trinidad we didn't use jigs. We used shims (think feeler gauges in no shim stock available), a good vise and a stone. Never buy another aftermarket trigger again! That's a skill that will follow her for the rest of her life.

I just got off the phone with the guy I bought the barrel from he has a red one in stock. so guess I get a red one instead of the black one. Gary I wish we both had time to take the NRA gunsmithing course.

I'm willing to bet there's nobody in the world you'd rather have stealing your parts. :D

That's awesome... I had just finished my dream AR10 using a Ruger SR762 base in 6.5 creedmoor... Took a year to get all of it perfect... Used up about $2000... My daughter (12) saw it and asked if I would trade it for a golf cart she wanted to tool around the neighborhood in... And I'm actually considering it... ugh! Thank you for being an example to us younger guys... Uh... I assume I'm younger...lol

First off is a big attaboy for helping your grand daughter with her shooting. Grandkids aren't exactly clueless and quickly learn that grandparents are pushovers for them as you know. Now a word of warning, their kids are just as smart. I would have a lot more stuff of my own if I didn't have grandkids that had kids. Oh, well, I still love them all, expensive or not.

Thanks for the post, as I needed to hear that not all of the young kids out there, are lost, as what I have been seeing is a generation of give me brats, lately. Keep up the good works in her!
