Looking at different knives, I saw this cool little beauty.

Which reminded me of this knife that I own.

I was thinking about drawing a line, from where the bottom of the hump is over the spyderco eye, to the tip of the blade. Then grinding 3 grooves into the blade like on the one above.

I figure 3 as the first would have to match the grind of the blade. Two more the same size would probably take it to the top.

Which would be better idea for removing metal, disk, stone or metal bit in a dremel? Ideas? I didn't want to heat the blade any more then necessary.

Also because a friend has started modifying his knives and they came out looking good.

Nice way to make something your own... I'm not a metallurgist and I have ruined a few items in my time... by over heating... So I get what you're saying... Hopefully there'll be some informative posts... And ideas. I guy down the street makes knifes out of old tractor implements... And does a really good job and customizing them... I'm gonna drop by sat and see what he has to say.

^^^^^^ That's very important. Go slowly and keep the blade cool. You will have to be especially careful when working near the edge/tip as the steel is very thin and will overheat very easily.

The good thing about the Yojimbo, is that it's priced well enough to not be a heartbreaker should something go wrong.

One suggestion I would have is don't use a bench grinder or angle grinder. I've seen some go at it to have a spray of sparks and seeing the blade turn rainbow colored is a :( Only takes a blink to kill the heat treat.

One thing I use when dealing with heat-treated steel. Use your hands to hold it (no gloves) if it gets too hot to handle put it down or in water to cool off. That way you never get close to the temp to kill the heat treat. Careful of the tip even without gloves a sander can get thin metal too hot. And if you want to drill a hole use a drill press with a cobalt bit and go slow.
