Time to see what she will do. Been popping off five shots at a time, just to get used to the gun, cleaning it, etc. I tried some 3fg Goex, 4fg Scheutzen, and 2fg Swiss, all at 40 grains by weight, not volume. For some reason, the Swiss pops off the hardest. I mean, Big Daddy is throwing them balls out fast. It goes bang with authority.

Anyhow, I'm happy with that group. I was aiming eight miles low, so now I have to start thinking about a taller front sight. Looks to me like the 40 grains of Swiss under the ball will be "the load". For wandering the wilderness that is, don't think I'll be plinking with it.

In the past I've never been a fan of lube-over-ball, but with a stiff lube it's working great for me. Two passes with Windex patches actually cleans the bore. Yes, I take more care than that, but it the field that will be the plus to be able to clean the barrel with only a few passes. Hopefully...I'll never have to fire it in the field. !!!

Wow, these things just don't cap-jam. It just throws the fired cap off, period, end of story. With the Colts, even with the cap posts and everything else, sometimes you still feel some drag with a spent cap stuck in the cone recess. Sometimes rarely with the Remington. Just does not happen with this pistol.

Something else I like is that the chambers are chamfered, so there's no rings-o-lead, and when you ram the ball it's one smooth motion, you don't get that pop or jump when the ring-o-lead shaves off. I think you actually get a tighter fit.

Okay, I'm quite taken, and thrilled with the R&S. It's really a good pistol.

How's that for a GLOWING report???!!!?? "Big Daddy" says: "thanks for listening!"

Thanks Smoke. That's what I thought, but was way too humble to admit. Not a target load for sure, but for a "mountain load" I think that's not bad.

Nice shooting, I like the idea of no silly ring of lead being cut off the ball! My revolvers have had the chambers chamfered so they don't do it either. I never liked that nonsense to begin with especially after having lead rings bind up a cylinder.

I really think the chamfer is the way to go, to my mind it squeezes the bullet or ball down, and fits it tighter to the chamber. I notice when a ring of lead is shaved, the ball kind of "pops" into the chamber, once that ring is shaved off. ? That is just my take on it.

I reckon you're right. When using chamfered chamber mouths the ball actually obturates a bit, making a super tight squeeze rather than removing the offending metal. Tighter squeeze; tighter fit. And that's good.

I do offer to chamfer chambers as an option on my tuning service, through I don't get many takers. That it's gotta shave lead or it's gonna chain fire myth is really in grained pretty deep. It's good to see someone with a different mind set every once in a while!

I guarantee for a cap and ball, that is a mountain load! With my pietta nma i shoot 40gr of goex at 15-20 yards with very similar results. This target is a 6x6 piece of paper and they all hit just a little low. The one shot in the upper right corner is not a flyer. That was a 25gr load which is the most accurate load my gun will shoot. I was aiming at the the thumb tack I had the target held up with. A2E7A6FD-5864-44D0-8022-2B146B268016.jpeg

Looks like the NMA holds as much pixie dust as the R&S. Didn't know that. Good shooting!

I was curious as to how much the cylinders would hold, so I filled each chamber completely full to the top and it held 50 gr by volume. I can get 45 gr with a ball only and 40 gr with a wad between powder and ball. 25 gr is hard to load I almost need a filler the rammer will just barley compress the powder.

That's interesting. Hey, just curious, could you throw your 50 grain-volume on a scale, and tell me what it weighs? Been some discussion as to what weights are being thrown by the common adjustable powder measures. For instance, mine throws 45 grains when set on 50. Also, I have a NMA cylinder laying around, I filled it up, then dumped it on the scale and got 46 grains. I then poured that into my measure, and it filled it right up to 50. !!! Seems to be a trend that 50 grains by volume, according to most measures, is actually 45 grains. Not that it matters, or makes much difference to most people, but it kind of rouses my curiosity.

sauce your right on, I’m getting the same thing. Filled my volume measure to 50 gr and on my digital scale it was 46.9
