I need to store loaded mags for easy transport and easy convenience.

I have looked at the Dillon border shift bag and it seems it might work.

Does anyone know how many 30 round mags a border shift bag could hold?

Not many. The Border shift is a pretty small bag, for loose ammo and I think only really pistol ammo. I tried it once for shotshells, too small. Also, for a specific purpose. The shift part is you load the whole thing with ammo, as it empties the center divider allows the other side to have room, then you put brass into that space.

I have a bag for each cartridge, ish. Just put a camera organizer into my old Uncle Mikes bag to make it my 5.56 one. Mostly AR (some Sig, Galil, and HK33 also), Lula, loose ammo to reload, etc and it's... a lot. 25+ mags.

I use ammo cans from MTM.

I've got one of those, too... they are pretty decent for what they are, but I would caution anyone against really swinging one around with 15 loaded mags in it. The only thing holding it shut are the 2 plastic clips, and they are not that robust. I really wish they would have used some sort of lockdown latch, similar to an ammo can.

Be aware, however... something like 15 loaded mags, or 450 rounds... is quite heavy. Having one giant container packed with loaded mags is, in my opinion, not a wise choice. Ease of portability and storage are factors I considered. Sure, I use my 15 mag MTM box, but I also use smaller plastic 'ammo cans' like those found at Harbor Freight and elsewhere. Much easier to move and transport, not quite as conspicuous as a big ammo can. Just my .02 worth.

I keep all of my magazines in 2 very disorganized rubber made bins- 1 for rifles, 1 for pistols. When I am going to go to the range, I dump them on the floor of the shed, and pick out the ones I am going to use. mollebandbig__74386.jpg
For something to CARRY mags to the range or other applications, these surplus MOLLE bandoliers are handy. They hold 6, but I can't remember if PMAGS fit in them or not- I know the HK mags don't. They can be had in this older BDU camo, that hideous ACU we used for a few years, or the new multicam pattern, for about $15. Probably less for the ACU since everyone hates it. We used these when I was in the mil- we would strategically place them in different spots inside of the vehicle, so it was an instant plus-up/restock of your ammo you carried on your kit.

I've had zero issues carrying either of my MTM cans (mine do have locking tabs btw). They are always full of 200-220 grain Blackout but the plastic holds up just fine.

Also, I bought like 20 PSA steel mags and put them on my self. 2 years later, I was moving them… full of spiders and eggs! so take that how you will. I don’t like spiders

...then that must be an upgrade MTM did on later boxes.

I also use those... they work well for something that's immediately useful and accessible. Carrying capacity depends on each individual system... I've got one that says it's a 2x3 (6 mags,) but it only holds 3 Magpuls, but I have another that carries the full 2x3 load.

that hideous ACU we used for a few years

Luckly, I got out before the ACU days... Woodland Camo for the win!

Used to be you could find these bags for around US$10

Each of the six outside pockets will fir 2 metal 30 round mags (Pmags are a bit tighter)
The center section has room for near as many as a person can lift.

There's probably any number of bags that can be repurposed to this use.

This reminded me I need a few more MTM boxes for my mags, the metal ammo cans I used to use have been dragooned into holding ammo.

Stay safe.

They'll hold 3 PMAGs, baseplates are too large to double stack them. Hell, when new they'll barely hold 6 metal mags. Super tight.

I know you haven't asked for alternatives, but I'd recommend an ammo can. Comes with a handle and is undoubtedly waterproof. A standard .50 will hold 17 mags while a fat fifty will supposedly hold 30 metal mags and 28 PMAGs. Looks a little militant if you're trying to be low key, though.

+1 on the "low key"... Had to call ems one day for a family member... Everybody showed up... EMS, Fire, the law... And I had stacks of ammo cans I was cleaning in the hall... I got a bunch of strange looks... Luckily I knew some of them and was able to compare them to my wife buying shoes... That she'd never use...
