I had one. while it was reliable, it was a PITA to take apart to clean.
A cheap AR15 isnt much more money, and the ease of cleaning and better looks are worth the small investment to me.

Idk the laws in CA, but an AR with a fixed stock, standard pistol grip, standard mag, and no muzzle threads is still a fun and effective gun. Not sure if that is even legal there?

I have seen one of the JRCs in person but not handled one. Looked like a decent and quality gun, and likely does what its supposed to.

I already have something that fills the 5.56 AR niche without bending local laws, thanks.

I'm looking semi-seriously into getting another 9x19 carbine -- I've owned a recent Ruger PC9 and an older Marlin Camp Carbine in the past and am curious how the JR stacks up.

Just Right Carbine ... I trust the opinions of my brothers on this forum much more, however.

Does anyone here have one and what's your opinion?
I have one with caliber conversions and have shot thousands of rounds over the years without issues.

While I have built many AR based PCCs over the years, I kept the JRC as my primary accuracy test platform for following reasons:
Since I also live in CA, my JRC has become "featureless" with fixed stock.

While JRC lacks the "Last round bolt hold open" feature and has non-conventional mag release position but it doesn't bother me like shooting AKs.

Here's sample 50/100 yard groups (BTW, currently all of my carbine load testing for Handloading & Reloading category is done on JRC and PSA PCC) - https://www.thehighroad.org/index.php?threads/9mm-pcc-handloads.894850/#post-12054942

I own a Marlin, and have played with a ruger and hipoint. I really like the Marlin, but I have a thing for wood....even cheap wood. The magazine choice is a real bummer however.

I think if I was to get another just to play with I would love to have more time with a hipoint. They are just so clunky, but I have yet to see anyone really say a bad word about them without trying to make themselves feel good about spending more money on what they own.

There is just something about that clunky hipoint. I don't know if that is good in the peoples republic or not, but I bet the marlin is as it is not scary looking. Oddly enough the one thing I have not shot is an AR in a pistol flavor....need to try that sometime.

Interesting comments. I have been pondering a PCC meself. The Marlins are great... on the surface. I'm still waiting on Ruger to upgrade the design and start kicking Camps out in .45ACP, again... although I might have a long wait. Not a big fan of the Ruger PCC, nor the HiPoint. LoneWolf made a PCC, and in .45ACP... but it looks like they no longer offer them.

I really like mine, the lower I guess I will call it, and there is an aftermarket one available, or was available that was cheap IIRC. I really enjoy the little thing, so fun to shoot. A 38/357 lever gun is also too fun as well. I really wanted the 77/357 but ruger can pound sand now that they raised the price $400. Long walk on short peer ruger.

The only other one I look at once and a while is the beretta, as I have 92 mags like most have crock.....err glock mags. Can't stand the space ship look of it, but I have the mags.

I think I have the one that fits (ME) and my fudd ways, the Marlin.

Now if I can ever find that Ruger 44 I will be set, but as I understand those are not very good guns, still want one however, a light special will likely not be hard on it.

Someone did a write up, maybe last Fall. They did a caliber conversion and kaboom’d it over some issue not shooter related. Gave me the willies reading about it.

I’ve seen one in the flesh but had no real notion of what I was holding.
