What's the most that you overpaid for ammo/components?

I've run across a thread here or there where people have stated that they've paid ridiculous sums of money for ammo over the past few years.

Probably the worst was a guy who paid $80 for a box of 30-30 and was apparently glad to have it. I audibly gasped when I read how much he paid. I was somewhat blindsided by the shortage, but I was certainly in good enough shape to not have to pay five times the price for a box of hunting ammo.

I bought a couple boxes of Winchester Power-Points in .308 for $25 a box around the end of 2020. I believe they were going for $18-$20 pre-pandemic. Considering they cost about $30 a box nowadays I don't think I did too badly.

I also paid $6 each for 50 round boxes of CCI Standard when rimfire was non-existent. Not a whole lot of money total, but still nearly double what it used to be. I only bought a few so it didn't sting that badly.

Edited to clarify title and to add reloading components to the question.

Don't recall severely overpaying for ammo anytime recently. Although I suppose to reloaders purchasing any factory ammo = overpaying. Unless you need brass. And don't want to buy it stand-alone.

It's all relative anyway. If you just started buying .45C last year, then you would feel that $60/box is normal. If you started somewhat before then... maybe not so much.

If you can't afford to buy it off the shelf then I guess it's all overpriced to you.

Overpaid for guns? Maybe once or twice.
Or maybe I just paid too soon.
Some "overpayments" don't look half bad nowadays.

I paid a little better than $20.00 (including sales tax) for 2, 100 round boxes of CCI Mini-Mag .22LRs at Sportsman's Warehouse a couple of months back. I could have gotten by without them, but my wife and I were real busy exterminating ground squirrels on our friend's ranch earlier this year, and I didn't want our stockpile of .22 LR ammo to run low.
By now, the ground squirrels my wife and I didn't kill have all gone back down in their tunnels for their long hibernation periods, and we're not even close to getting into those expensive boxes of CCI Min-Mag I bought yet. Oh well - the ground squirrels will be out in force again next spring. And at my age, there's no telling whether or not I'll still be around to shoot them. It might be one of our daughters, or one of grandson's that's shooting ground squirrels on our younger rancher friend's ranch with that expensive .22 LR ammo. ;)

I DON'T, I don't have the extra money and I do have a wife with a lot more common sense than me!

During the shortage, I put 6 boxes of Federal .380 FMJ 95gr. ammo on Gunbroker for Auction. 7 days later it sold for $545 shipped! BTW he was glad to receive it. I thought it was crazy!
6 boxes as in 300 rounds? that’s absolutely CRAZY… but it was crazy times too. I guess $550 for a peace of mind is worth it. It was absolutely Chaotic here during the summer of Love in Seattle

I never have, always buy on sale and not in any panic.I am like a bird, cheap cheap...
The expensive ammo even in no panic times that was too much, like 221 fireball, 45-70, 7mm int-r, 7.62x25 ect ect forced me to reload and also the ability to make custom loads to my liking and shooting. I would never consider reloading 9mm, 40 and most common calibers. I cant load it as cheap.
But I hate to admit i recently bought some primers for 80 bucks a k, that was probably the only time i have overpaid.

$120ish for probably a 40+ year old box of 25-20WCF. $40 a box for some federal American eagle m1 garand ammo.
