You just reminded me of something, and I think this one will take the cake.my LGS was rationing 9mm by the 10 round sandwich bag. @ $10 a bag and was still selling out with lines wrapped around
1 bag per person a day
lots of greed during those times. I remember Midways was one of the worst!!! IMI 5.56 / 1K for $1300! I only buy stuff from them on saleYou just reminded me of something, and I think this one will take the cake.
I was with a friend at a pawn shop when he was picking up his new rifle, about a year ago now. I witnessed some gentlemen walk in and ask for some 9mm. Kid behind the counter says "Sure, we've got some" and hands him a dimebag with 25 rounds of FMJ in it. One of the guys asks "How much" and the kid responds "Forty bucks." Guy thought about it for a second and goes "Alright", buys it, and leaves.
As soon as the gentlemen clear the door my buddy and I respectfully tell the kid to inform his boss that if we'd have known that they were pricing their ammo like that, we wouldn't have given them any of our business. We, of course, know that it was the owner who set the prices, not a 17 year old making minimum wage, so we didn't give him a hard time.
They can price their merchandise however they'd like, but we certainly won't be patronizing their store any longer.
Surprisingly, the rifle was actually a decent deal.
I think it depends on the specifics. If 9mm and .556 permanently stayed at a buck a round, then paying a buck a round isn't overpaying. Is it really overpaying if you are paying the going market rate?
I bought some small pistol primers earlier this year for close to $100 per 1000... That's the worst I've had to do and still able to shoot about 8,000 rounds per year.
I won't overpay for anything.
just spent $120 for one bag of grocery + a giant bottle of Sake’Bought any food or gas lately?
If so - what's your secret?
I remember walking into Walmart in august of 2020 and buying 270 Winchester ammo for $16.79 a box!I've run across a thread here or there where people have stated that they've paid ridiculous sums of money for ammo over the past few years.
Probably the worst was a guy who paid $80 for a box of 30-30 and was apparently glad to have it. I audibly gasped when I read how much he paid. I was somewhat blindsided by the shortage, but I was certainly in good enough shape to not have to pay five times the price for a box of hunting ammo.
I bought a couple boxes of Winchester Power-Points in .308 for $25 a box around the end of 2020. I believe they were going for $18-$20 pre-pandemic. Considering they cost about $30 a box nowadays I don't think I did too badly.
I also paid $6 each for 50 round boxes of CCI Standard when rimfire was non-existent. Not a whole lot of money total, but still nearly double what it used to be. I only bought a few so it didn't sting that badly.
Edited to clarify title and to add reloading components to the question.
Ok, that is literally the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard! What is in the water in your town???my LGS was rationing 9mm by the 10 round sandwich bag. @ $10 a bag and was still selling out with lines wrapped around

When you've defined "overpaid", without reference to any nonsensical claims to a right to set the price of things you don't own, I'd be happy to consider the question. What's the most that you overpaid. . .
Probably the worst was a guy who paid $80
See, I understand that in a free market any object can be sold to who ever is willing to pay the most for it. Unfortunately this ends up being pushed wayyy to far and you see people asking $350 with shipping a single brick of large rifle magnum primers on GunBroker (Yes I have seen actual listings for that much, sadly). Yeah sure, maybe one sucker will pay that much but people like us here on THR will see right through their BS and refuse to pay that much. When you've defined "overpaid", without reference to any nonsensical claims to a right to set the price of things you don't own, I'd be happy to consider the question.
You can't. Same as "price gouging", the concept vanishes as soon as you thoroughly apply property rights, including the right to sell one's property, to the conversation.
Absolutely fantastic response, BRAVO!!!Bought any food or gas lately?

Gunbroker did well on their comissions. SELLERS got rich taking advantage of desperate buyers in a short supply world. But don’t blame the sellers. The buyers are the ones bidding up the prices.$2 a round? no wonder GB got so rich during the plandemic
I never overpay for anything either. Everything I buy is a fair price - for me.I won't overpay for anything.
Does the Sake' relieve some of the pain from paying $120 for a bag of groceries?just spent $120 for one bag of grocery + a giant bottle of Sake’
