Second favorite battle or assault rifle after the AR15 or AK47?

Great question!

It's also a tough one when you consider that the term "battle rifle" would also include the M1, M14, and even the '03 Springfield and 1917 Enfield.

My second favorite modern battle rifle would be a tie between the G3 and the FN FAL.

If we include the older battle rifles, then it would have to be the M1 Garand, hands down.

Why do you ASSUME the AR15 or AK47 are number one ?

The main anti-terrorist weapon in large British, plus some Euro airports is the small (9x19 mm) MP5.

At least that is all I have seen the police carry inside.

Just wanted to mention it. They train for a battle, it seems.

Last May right outside the walls of Windsor Castle (by rows of shops), I passed a smallish group of “special” police carrying SBR’d “ARs” with lots of Junk Attached.

The AR and AK are the most prolific.

M1 Carbine and SKS are my go to favorites.

It’s too bad commercial ammo is through the roof in pricing, don’t want to use up what I’ve got. Maybe after this skirmish in Uke is over some surplus ammo will make its way to our shores.




Galil Ace 5.56 in reality. Ar mags, peep sight, best of both worlds in regards to AK and AR. Mine is a Gen 1 and is fantastic.

M-1 Rifle. Actually, it may be my favorite with the AR being second favorite. Specifically, I have a Mini-G in .308 with a red dot on it, and it is awesome. Relatively accurate, reliable, heavy enough to butt stroke if needed.

My Number One-Second choice, after my AR, would be an FN FAL.

Who says the AR or AK is first?

Those two are forth and fifth in my book.

M14.

M-1 Garand or Yugoslavian SKS.

That's a hard question. Id probably go with the Scar 16. The G36 is in the running but I dont have enough time on one to really have a real opinion on it.

With a fun switch? Probably FAMAS. Even the FAMAS F.1 with its kluudged optics rail.
After that, the M-2 Carbine.

Garand after that.

I’ve had a Mini 14 of one form or another of various styles for many many years. I’m a fairly new comer to the AR platform. The Mini is usually leaning against the bannister by me on the front porch waiting for a critter to show itself. The controls of Mini are planted in my brain and using it is second nature. I’m not as familiar with the AR. The bolt handle seems awkward and the safety is like somehow misplaced. In the event of complete societal collapse I’d probably grab the Mini

My first choice is an M-1 Carbine, my second would be an SKS.

Choice was made by what is normally available, so anything full auto was passed over.
