Do you have a favorite pistol(s) that shoots better than anything else?

Not really but thinking back over the last few times I've had to shoot a qualifying it seems the handgun of choice has been my Colt Detective Special.

I happen to have its pint sized brother, also born in 1950

And a couple of their older brothers

The Woodsman is such a great design. Small, yet not "little kid sized" and made to last a lifetime (or two) the bottom one is a late 20s model iirc. I even have the box and paperwork from the next oldest

I've got to agree with Demi-human about the Dan Wesson 1911s. I recently bought a used Dan Wesson Specialist Commander in 9mm and took it to the range with my brother, my son and a friend of my brother's. There were steel targets at 35 yards, 67 yards and 98 yards. I progressed through the 35 and 67 and just for fun, tried the 98 yards. These targets are intended for rifles and are not full sized silhouettes. They are more like the "C" scoring ring on an IDPA target. I was able to hit them 50% of the time. I couldn't believe it.

I tried to reproduce that hit ratio with my STI Marauder and never hit once in 10-15 rounds.

About the Dan Wesson 1911s...if you know, you know.

Sig P229 40SW is the one I shoot best. It's like it was designed for me, and compensates for my limited shooting skills. Outstanding firearm (IMHO).

I am more consistently accurate with a Ruger GP100, 4” to 6” in barrel length, with the original-pattern OEM grip, than any other factory-stock handgun, that I have used. With appropriate aftermarket grips, I am as consistently accurate with an S&W K-Frame or L-Frame revolver. Notice that I used “consistently accurate,” which means that other handguns may be as accurate, in my hands, but that I tend perform better, more of the time, with these specific revolving pistols.

Honorable mention goes to a Government-Model-sized 1911 pistol, with the junction of the front strap and trigger guard being relived, a bit, to allow the pistol to sit lower in my hand. Les Baer and Wilson Combat frames are examples of this, that I have owned and fired. I can shoot such a 1911 as accurately as I can the above-described revolvers, but if I am “having a bad day,” I will do better with the revolvers.

In a heart beat give me a revolver but for pure fun I have not been disappointed with my Volquartsen Black Mamba .22. 6 months out of the year I shoot my S&W 617 for Steel Challenge. The other 6 months out comes my Black Mamba.

It's the most accurate gun in my possession and has just about every accessory offered by VQ including a 1 pound 7 ounce trigger, Accurizing Kit, Adjustable Rear Sight,, VQ Bolt and single port Compensator. It also hosts a C-More Railway red dot sight with either a 12 or 6 minute dot. I've been using 12 for the past 4 years but just recently put a 6 in it to help accuracy.

Guess it depends on the type of shooting but for longer ranges, for whatever reason, my RIA 10mm is my accuracy king. Could be the handloads, could just be the way it fits me, but I routinely outshoot much more expensive 1911s with it when distances start getting beyond 20 yards.

For shorter range stuff and practical drills, I’ve never been able to replace the Glock 19 as top on my hands. I’ve tried a lot of other options, and it just works for me.

My Taurus PT1911, but my Gx4 is sneaking up on it fast.

I shoot Glocks very well, but they are far from my favorite, and I don't own one anymore.

I shoot Hi-Powers well, and love them, but have never owned one.

semiauto: ruger sr22 with 3.5” barrel.
revolver: ruger single six with 5.5” barrel.

rimfire and ruger cannot be beat. i have put 1000s of rounds through these two pieces, because shooting them is cheap and easy, practice makes perfect.

Several of my guns shoot better than I do, that fact is painfully obvious every time I hit the range. :(

I did have a very nice day with my Kimber Stainless Target II 9mm a few months back. 30 shots at 12 yards, two-hand standing.

Same gun, 30 shots, same shooting style, but at 20 yards.

It isn’t all that common for me, but sometimes things just work out.

Stay safe.

as with some others on here, all my guns are more accurate than me. and i'm getting worse with age.

but, i seem to shoot better with my colt python, and my taurus 1911 that i traded for over 20 years ago.
i've heard some disparage the heinie 8 (spelling?) sights on the 1911, but they work very well for me.
