Man, I was just desperate to get one of these and haven't been able to get one since the pandemic. $2,000.66 total from gunbroker + $25 when it arrives for my ffl transfer fee. A lot over MSRP and not really a "rare" gun i didn't think.

I've had dies for two years and brass for one. I can't wait to get this thing going. I have 8lb of h110 and a thousand projectiles sitting too, I even have some magnum rifle primers I saved this whole time...

Any better scope than the Leopold 4x? I intend to hunt with a scope and when I initially started looking that was the scope I had planned.

This is the longest and hardest I've ever looked for a gun so I decided to post I hope you found it entertaining.

Ouch! But congratulations!:)

I’ve got a 44MAG Redhawk that I wish was a 454 Casull.

Congrats on finding one you want. I can’t recall, Super Blackhawk 5-shot or Super Redhawk?

Mine is a 7.5”, I just wish it wasn’t the “Target Gray” finish. I’d rather it was stainless.

Let us know how it shoots for you when you get a chance to take it out.

Stay safe.

Yikes! That is a lot of money for that gun. I hope it scratches the itch - I might have held out for something from Freedom Arms, in that price range!

I really like Leupold handgun scopes. The 4x is good if you shoot from rested positions and are in no hurry. I have come to prefer the 2x for general work, as it is quite a bit faster/easier, at least for me.

I was wondering the same, since he mentioned a scope, I'm assuming he's talking about the Super Redhawk, or did Ruger make any SB's with scope mount cuts?
A 454 SB Hunter?

I bought a 44 mag super redhawk on accident to go with my regular redhawk. I was so anxious to get one of these I hit buy now once without checking the caliber properly...

I got a super redhawk 454 casull. I do think the hunter model Bisley super blackhawk offers scope ring cuts as well

I’ve always wanted a Ruger 454 Casull as well. And for years I’ve told myself if an opportunity ever arises jump on it! Darned if there isn’t one sitting on the wall at my local gun store right now. But I just can’t justify the cost in Biden’s economy.

But it sounds like its time for you to get in some recoil therapy!

From the pic that one has the scope ring cuts for the Ruger rings. I have SBH hunter in .44mag with the same cuts that came with Ruger rings. 2x Leupold works well for hunting. To much power and you will lose your target at close range...

Congratulations on your purchase @sequins

I know you paid dearly for it, but it’s something you have wanted for some time, obviously. Enjoy it.

Awesome!
To me, there is no better revolver cartridge than the 454, it's a combination of reasonable size, common abundant projectiles and good power. If the x frames weren't so massive I might like them better but really I'm much more of a ruger guy. I'll tell you what I've learned from the years I've spent loading and shooting 454s, full pressure loads will produce stuff extractions - bring something to poke out cases individually because sometimes the can't all be pushed at once. Bullet weight is your friend, heavier bullets at lower velocity (think 325 grain at 1200 fps) will be everything you want and still extract easily. Only use velocity to flatten trajectory. Get some 250 grain rnfp to load practice /plinking loads. There is a large point of impact shift between loads to differing velocity, sight in with what you'll use and don't be surprised if your elevation is way off if you change loads.

You're going to love that ruger, can't wait for the range report.

Congrats on the SRH.

I went deer hunting one time with my scoped, 7.5" Redhawk in 44 Mag.

I saw the deer at 30-40 yards through thick brush. Cocked the hammer as quietly as I could, the doe looked up and was gone in a second.

My advice is when you do take it hunting, come up with some quiet way to make it safe, as these animals you're hunting are pretty tuned in to sounds that don't belong in the woods.

I've been eyeing a SRH in 480 Ruger for years as well. It always been out of stock in the times I've looked for it. Now that I'm looking again I'm noticing revolvers in general have gone up it seems some 50% from a few years ago. Ruger LCRs where $400-$500, GP100s were $600, SRH were $800-$900. This isn't just inflation. I see that Ruger sales number are down year over year. I hope we start seeing some discounts soon.

Wow. I didn't believe it until I saw all the listings. They really are going for crazy money. And to think I used to pass on them all the time at $600 or so for used ones:thumbdown:.
I know I sold a SRH in 480 a while back for 650. Guess I gave it away. I've still got another 480 and a 454 SRH maybe thinking I should sell them too if they are worth so much.

i came onto a older ruger #1 in .460 S&W new in the box several years ago for a wopping 700.00, i picked up .454 and .460 cases and dies but have not fired it as i have a ruger#1 and #3 in 45-70 that when loaded up does every thing i want a .45 caliber bullet to do, a 300 gr bullet at 2000 fps.

I have some 45 colt brass too, I imagine I'm going to plink with it plenty in between heavy loads. No need to push it too hard for every shot. That said,,I've gone to the limit with 44 mag and this is going to be dramatically more energetic I can hardly wait

So, the one I got appears to be a more recent blasted stainless finish like all the other ruger stainless revolvers.

I didn't really like the gray, it wouldn't have matched anything. I would have bid anyways but I'm glad I got bead blasted stainless to match my sp101, GP100, GP100MC, Super Blackhawk, Redhawk, and prior Super Redhawk. They're all blasted stainless and that gray would have eaten me alive...

Yea, I had the gray one, not sure of Rugers thoughts...heard they had trouble matching stainless parts (barrel and frame) so they came up with the gray blast finish to match them, maybe someone with more knowledge than me will chime in, it was a good shooter for sure, no matter the color...
