My Canik is almost exactly one year old. I have fired approximately 1200- 1500 rds through it. I have put 9MM ammo from all over the world, as well as, just about every American brand without a single failure of any kind. The handgun shows no wear at all except for the safety plunger spring which started to cause some grittyness in the trigger travel before the break. About two weeks ago I replaced the stock spring with a SPRINCO (9 bucks) and now is smoother than ever. With very minimal recoil and an outstanding trigger, its a joy to shoot and is extremely accurate. A few months ago I put on a HOLOSOM 407K red dot, which has made it even easier to be more accurate. With the red dot, I look like a real pro (LOL). This $500 firearm has gone way above my expectations and has become my favorite 9MM handgun to shoot.

PS- About 8 months ago I purchased a CANIK TP9SFX. Looks like I'll be doing the same I yr write up for it as well. Amazing firearms.

+1 on your assessment of the Mete SFX, I mounted a Holosun 407 but still prefer the stock irons under 15 yards. I almost feel guilty when it's left behind on range day. Can't let my 1911's get too jealous.

My tp9sfx is 3 now. not sure how many rounds but well over 3000. Only issue I had was the adapter plate for the holo site came lose during a match.

I have the Rival Darkside SFX. Great pistol!! Super accurate. Canik again improved the trigger on the Rival. I don't see a need to yet to add any springs yet. The pull is just over 3lbs and the reset is micro. I don't have that many rounds through mine yet. I have Holosun 407c red dot on it which is amazing!

But my previous first gen SFX I probably put 8-10,00 rounds through. I added the Freedomsmith trigger and lighter return spring to. I don't remember what I paid for it maybe a little over $400 but it surpassed my expectations!

Canik just keeps raising the bar on their pistols! Why pay more for a Glock, Walther or Sig?

Canik makes some seriously nice pistols. I've had my Rival for a few months now and it's the gun that I'm most accurate with. I just picked up a TP9 Elite SC. I have about 100 rounds through it so far and no problems. I think it will be my colder weather carry gun. It's a bit chunkier than my Shield Plus.

I have the Mete sfx took about 100 rds to break it in,ftf, fee was using cheap Wolf steel case ammo. Got about 200 thru it no problem since. Very accurate.

I have between 10-15k rounds throigh the SFX, Mete, SF and Rival models, no malfunction of any kind. Someone else I know has 50k+ through various models with the same result. The Mete and Rival can shoot 5 shot groups of 1 hole at 7 yds all day long. Canik has blown up the pistol market with innovation/value vs. price. Get them now unless you want to pay more when the sleepy other brand fanboys wake up.

I've got a TP9 SC that I got mostly because I wanted a gun with a red dot, to see if I liked the red dot. I'd never really even heard of the Canik until just before I found this one in the used case at my LGS. It was in NIB condition with all the "goodies" that come in the box, with the red dot already installed. I think this was a factory package. I paid about $500.00 for it. No idea if that's good, bad, or indifferent, but it was a lot less expensive than other dot equipped guns in the case.

I haven't shot it a lot, but it sure does shoot...and that's with me holding it. It's never malfunctioned in my somewhat limited shooting. I haven't touched the dot. It came sighted in for the way I shoot it. I haven't tried to carry it yet, but it's about the size of a Glock 19, and I have carried those with no problems. About all I'd change if I was picking and choosing, I'd swap the included 15 round mag for another 12 round (shown) one. If I was to carry it, I'll probably see if I can find another 12 rounder.

Just shot the METE SFT PRO today - OH MY! It's got the same trigger as a Rival, but it looks cooler. The Stainless fluted barrel really makes it the coolest looking gun on the range. It's got Rival accuracy too, my first 3 shots went through one hole at 10 yds. I think the front sight is better that the Rival, METE or SFX, AND it's tritium; likely an XS sight. It also fits my METE holster. If I could only buy one Canik, that would be it.

I have a Mete SFX bought about 2 months ago. It’s nice and the trigger is great. I do have one issue with it. Sometimes it won’t lock back the slide on the last round.

It’s never failed to fire or eject. Just every now and then the slide will go forward and I’ll pull the trigger on an empty chamber. I will say it’s seen almost exclusively hand loads. I might have 20 rounds of factory 115 range ammo through it. Some of my loads are about 75-90% max but the majority are minimum loads under cast or plated 125 and 147 grain bullets. It did happen with a 147 grain XTP load at 0.1 grains under Hornady’s published max. I’m still mostly blaming my reloading ability or lack thereof.

The slide action on these guns hits the back end of travel very softly. I told my instructor about this same issue after going through about 10 troubleshooting steps with mags and handloads. He immediately said it's because I was holding my thumbs too low. My wrist wasn't locking enough to let the slide fully go back. Same thing as limp wristing with guns where the slide slams back. He told me to prove this theory by shooting it one handed. He was right 20 times in a row. I was shooting out of form that day due to extreme heat, and I realised it was me. That day I later told another Front Sight instructor/Graduate about it, and she immediately confirmed. Never had that issue again.

For fun, hold your dominant arm out in front of you with your thumb level, like you're shooting. Look at how flat the inside of your wrist is. Now point your thumb up, and watch your top wristbone pop out, and your bottom one go in - your wrist us now locked. Unless you're below or maybe at minimum load, it's not the loads. My METE has cycled at minimum, in a range of 5.0 to 6.0 grains.

When testing some plinking loads with 125 grain Hunters Supply cast bullets I tested single handed with both dominant and off hand. I don’t recall any issues with the slide lock. I don’t remember having any with factory ammo either but that’s not very many rounds.

If I dismiss the flier that was 6” away from the rest of the group, the Mete shoots pretty well with 147 grain XTPs and HS-6 powder up near max load. I feel pretty confident the flier was me.

I'm really liking my TP9 SC. I am running a Swampfox Sentinel optic on it. The Canik's have one of the best triggers out of the box that I have shot.

I know that the full size Canik pistols are becoming more popular for competition shooting.

i just put on the same rds on my rival darkside. which screws did you use to connect the sight to the mounting plate? i ended up using the ones that came with the sight as the holes were countersunk. i don't know if i was misunderstanding the instructions on the canik about only using their screws for the adaptor plate only or both adaptor plate and the red dot. i haven't zeroed mine yet. 20220831_123952.jpg

Is it the same trigger in the METE and Rival? Thought they were different...

Hey Roval, yes I used the screws that came with the sight to mount it to mounting plate.

Desert Fox, I believe that the trigger on the Rival is updated from the Mete SFX but that the Mete SFX Pro has the same trigger as the Rival. I will gladly stand corrected if this is not the case.

From what I've read, with the Rival they started nickel plating the trigger, the METE SFT/SFX Pro line they kept the nickel plating as well. I can barely tell the difference in feel from the original SFX. They're all so good, I'd be (And am) happy to own any of them. They have created a new class of striker fired gun. Each new model is better in some slight way. The slide cuts are ground breaking on the Rivals, the easiest to manipulate front or back, than anything else I have ever picked up (PDP is close). That's what you want out of a defense or any other gun.
