I ran a slug they the bore of the 9mm that intended for my cast boolit project. It is a bit large at .358 to the grooves. .349 at the lands.

I have 25- test loads sitting with powder coat and Lee sized to .356. I have about 300 124 gr that are powder coated and unsized, which puts them between .359 / 361. It really depends if you measure them radially or axially.

I think moving forward I try unsized PC bullets, but am I looking at certain leading doom with the .356 loaded rounds? This is recycled range scrap, so not particularly hard.

this is a cheap Taurus auto if that matters.

Probably not. They will probably "bump up" a little as they engage the rifling. I think the scientific term is obturation. If they were harder or not PC I would be more concerned.
The unsized bullets may give you more accuracy, but that is only a guess.

Test them. We can science all day about optimum but results are king. If your motivated load different sizes and work your way down. If the smallest leads you up the rest of the tests are done and your already headed home.

Yep, the proof is in the puddin'. They are safe to shoot, but may give inferior accuracy, or consistency...

I can tell you my Beretta 92 performance straight up hates lead bullets.
In 4 or 5 mags, so 80 to 100 rounds, that barrel was so leaded one couldn't tell the lands and grooves apart, it was completely smooth.

356 coated bullets going down a 358 barrel, nope no thanks.

25 rounds and the barrel looks perfect.

I was running HP38 and ran from 3.7-4.1. Very different recoil impulse than the tight group I had been using for the last few years. It seemed snappy.

accuracy was pretty bad at 5-6” at 7 yards and I had random keyholes, which seemed to get better as I pushed them harder. 4 & 4.1 loads had 1 keyhole out of 5.

I will try running some of the larger bullets and see if they are better performers. Not sure about the keyhole situation.

here are a few that I picked up 100 yards down the line. Blue really sticks out. 72436C2F-0567-4B87-B5D5-94EC294F971E.jpeg

What gun?

This is a Taurus G2C. It’s a truck gun quality 9, but it seems to run flawlessly so far.

Gotcha, not sure about the Taurus. Some guns like older Glocks did not like lead. Not sure how much more room you have in the load to increase but seems if it’s getting better you are on the right track. Obviously stay within the published data.

Hey y’all

ran some test loads, which are powder coated and .358 in size, which is the same as the bore.

I am seeing about 10% tumbling and 10% yawing at 20’.

accuracy was acceptable.

what are the next steps for correcting instability? These are currently being pushed by 4gr of HP38 and 1.06” length. No leading issues this far.
