Have you fired a .44mag that made you giggle like an idiot?

I just chrono’d 10 of these at an average of 1425 fps through my 5.5” Ruger SBH and yeh, I giggled like an idiot….:D. And yes, I know the SBH isn’t listed as one of their safe to shoot through revolvers but I did, it’s done and those are the last of those things that will go through any of my revolvers.

I do get some pleasure every time I squeeze the trigger on my 7.5" SBH (I actually like heavy recoil in non-EDC handguns) but only two firearms ever made me actually giggle.

One time at the range a fellow two lanes over was squeezing off bursts from his M11/9. When we talked to him, he asked "do you want to try it?" I can tell you if someone ever asks if you want to try their machine gun the answer is always "YES!" He let me, my daughter, my son, and my daughter-in-law each fire a full mag through it.

The other time I was at an indoor range and every time the guy in the far right lane squeezed his trigger it sounded like someone had lobbed a hand grenade downrange and I felt a shock wave tap my right cheek. He was firing a S&W 460 XVR. Firing that beast gave me a good giggle and a huge smile. :D

It says right on the box "Super Blackhawk."

I bet that was fun! My full power 240gr coated lead travels about that fast with a full charge of W296 in my SBH. I can only imagine what shooting a 330gr bullet at that velocity feels like!

My standard full power loads are the same as yours and they are enough. I quickly decided if I want to go that hard with my revolvers I will stick with my .454 Casull or .475 Linebaugh. But yes, it was fun!! :D

Yowza! Thats a lot of horsepower for sure. I bet those would punch a hole in a bison from stem to stern. :)

Stay safe.

Yes! When I was 16 I many years ago I would buy PMC 240 grain loads that were ridiculously loud and made a huge fireball. I used to love to shoot them in the evening just to watch the fireball.

Those loads are a whole nother level!

Enjoy

I am feeling sympathetic pain in my pre arthritic shooting hand just from reading those numbers. I have never fired anything that heavy in my SBH. 255 Grain 429244’s with gas check at 1200 using 296 is as stout as I have ever tried. You have my respect!

How did they get there?

A 330 grain cast GC with case stuffed full of H110 / 296 gets 1350 fps out of an 8.275” barrel according to Hodgdon.

A .357Max in a 10” T/C. I could handle it, it was loud and accurate, and <yes there’s a pun coming> it was a blast.

[EDIT - Added]
Sorry. Drifted off the .44mag topic.

Love my 5' 629 with the Mag-n-ports. I'm no Jerry M, but I can shoot it passably. This gives me the grins and giggles when I do this.

Worthy of note that they're loaded to original .44Mag maximum pressure of 43,500CUP. Imagine shooting those in an N-frame. First heavy load I fired out of my Old Model SBH was the Buffalo Bore 340gr load. It was then that I discovered that I had judged the SBH grip frame by the crappy factory grips. The thick stags that were on mine made it almost pleasurable.

Hodgdon data uses the Beartooth bullet, which has two crimp grooves, using the upper groove. I've gotten them to 1450fps, crimped in the lower groove and 'more' H110. ;)
