Have you fired a .44mag that made you giggle like an idiot?

He misread the label which isn’t a hard thing to do, I also did a double take and realized it was a Super Redhawk and not the Super Blackhawk. Doesn’t make much sense to me though since it is the SBH frames that are sent to the big bore guys for customized work….475/500 Linebaugh etc.

Someone a few booths down from me at an indoor range started shooting .50AE, he literally rocked the range. And me...

He shoot an entire box and left the brass on the floor. I picked one up, dwarfed a .45acp case.
I despise indoor shooting!! Lol

The big DA's are significantly stronger guns. Larger cylinders with offset notches and more positive lockup. The five-shot guns are built to near zero tolerances with a blocked action so they don't shoot themselves apart. That's why there's "Redhawk only" loads in .44Mag and .45Colt that are 50,000psi. I shoot heavy loads out of the SRH that re only shared with the Bisley that has an oversized six-shot cylinder, built like a five-shot.

I just chrono’d 10 of these at an average of 1425 fps through my 5.5” Ruger SBH and yeh, I giggled like an idiot….:D. And yes, I know the SBH isn’t listed as one of their safe to shoot through revolvers but I did, it’s done and those are the last of those things that will go through any of my revolvers.

I don't know that I would be laughing, but am pretty sure I wouldn't be looking to take a second shot. I reload, so my 44 Mag SBH Bisley gets a load I like to shoot. I have NO motivation to see how hot a load I can shoot or what velocity contest I might win.

I agree with you but when a buddy hands something like that to me to run through a chronograph there is a bit of a hold my beer moment…:D

I don't recall giggling - but - I do recall a lot of stifled and not-so-stifiled laughter one time at a get-together shooting a .44mag & a follow up to it.

We passed around the .44mag for everyone to have a try with it.
After 6 shots of .44 mag, we handed the person my Davies 2-shot derringer - loaded with CB caps.
The shooter would brace for this Titanic recoil - that was nothing..

Everybody - even the shooter - got a huge grin over this.

As far as loading "hot pills" go, I more or less outgrew that decades ago. I came to the understanding that more velocity only buys you extended range.

Small .44, big power load with lots of flash and yeah, you'll smile even if it's not the most pleasant thing in the world. I do remember laughing the first time I shot a .500 S&W, it was more of a *** kind of laughter.

Glad I wasn't the only one, first time I shot my DE out the backdeck range. All alone, but laughing to myself. Started with the 44 mag barrel and the laughing didn't stop when changed over to the 50 AE barrrel. A man my age shouldn't have that much fun. In fact, I am smiling right now, just thinking about that first day I shot that.

Longtime user of 240gr/JHP/coal scoop of H110; it produced nearly 1400'sec in a 6" 629; it was a hammer, killed 3 deer with it. But it wasn't something to take for a fun day at the range.
Still love my 629, but I've turned down the heat significantly, and the 200gr/RNL/1200 'sec loads make me grin, but they are a long way from kissing your sister.
When a buddy and I first got .44s, we went out and did foolish things, like shooting holes in engine blocks.

I do get some pleasure every time I squeeze the trigger on my 7.5" SBH (I actually like heavy recoil in non-EDC handguns) but only two firearms ever made me actually giggle.

One time at the range a fellow two lanes over was squeezing off bursts from his M11/9. When we talked to him, he asked "do you want to try it?" I can tell you if someone ever asks if you want to try their machine gun the answer is always "YES!" He let me, my daughter, my son, and my daughter-in-law each fire a full mag through it.

The other time I was at an indoor range and every time the guy in the far right lane squeezed his trigger it sounded like someone had lobbed a hand grenade downrange and I felt a shock wave tap my right cheek. He was firing a S&W 460 XVR. Firing that beast gave me a good giggle and a huge smile. :D

I giggle every time I shoot my 460 XVR...what a pleasure. Me 460.jpg

Still pondering the whole concept of
shooting a .44 mag and giggling like
an idiot.

If you giggle like an idiot shooting the
.44, is that because you are an idiot
in the first place?

Or did you giggle because the .44
makes you an idiot?

:neener:

First thing I thought of when I saw that was I'd like to try some of that in my Chiappa.

THAT would make me giggle, but their webpage says too long for use in rifles...
