It's that time of year, rooting through the hunting gear starts the mind running. During the spring and early summer I mounted a scope to my muzzle loader. It shot well... But it's totally impractical for actually hunting. I can't use the primer tool so..... Off it comes and a peep is going on it now. Need to get busy since I intend to hit the early muzzle loader season for the first time. Looking forward to hunting in the fall instead of the dead of winter late in January. In truth I'll probably hunt both if I do get to go early.

That's what I'm looking forward to hunting when it's green and again later when it's grey.

Son and I got skunked last year, determined that we get too antsy, trying too many different spots. Last day, on the way out, found a spot we have never hunted, with natural funnels and a plateau beside a water source. Left it undisturbed, but marked it as the ONLY spot we will concentrate on this year. Looking forward to seeing the look on my 13YO's face when he busts his first deer.

"What are you looking forward to this hunting season"
1. My once a year venison liver and onions dinner with fried potatoes and pork and beans. My wife's apple pie and hot coffee for desert.
2. Chicken fried venison steak with biscuits and gravy, mashed potatoes, and corn.
3. Venison sausage biscuits (my own sourdough-buttermilk biscuits) with pepper jack, cool-ranch chips, and an ice cold lager. :D

Seriously, I drew a deer (mule deer) tag this year in the unit where most of our rancher friend's ranch is located. My wife and I usually hunt BLM and Forest Service land, but this year I'll be hunting private (our friend's ranch) land. It should be pretty good - my wife and I saw a lot of deer when we were shooting ground squirrels over there earlier this year. And if I shoot a deer on our friend's ranch, we have permission to drive our pickup truck right to it - no dragging or hauling a boned out venison on our backs.

I am buying a new and larger upright freezer this year because I plan to have tons game meat this year. I want to experiment with cured meats, different sausages, some breakfast sausage, a few different jerkys and the like.

Going to only use one rifle this year in GA. My new Ruger Hawkeye FTW in 300 Win Mag. It is overkill for deer but I want to have as much experience with it as I can for my January Nilgai hunt in Texas.

Will also be going to MI again to hunt with my pops.

Along with the fun of being in the woods chasing all manner of game, I am looking forward to maybe finally connecting on a very challenging deer hunt I have been trying to figure out for a few years. Its a tag that is easy to get, but hard to hunt because the sole piece of public land where you can use a rifle is huge and wide open. After 2 or 3 years of trying to figure things out, I think I finally know how the deer move on the property and how to put a hunt on. Might only have long shot opportunities, but we will see.

I am looking forward for to hunting out of my new box blind that I finally got in the woods. It was three years in the making(due to an injury and too much work), but I finally finished it and got it in place.

You see, my work stops when it rains. I can actually go hunting then.
No more hunting in the rain getting me and my gear soaked. I’ll be sitting in the blind brewing some coffee and maybe a pot of chili.
I probably won’t get any deer while doing that but hey…..it’ll be fun!

I've got a guided MT mule deer hunt in NOV that I lucked into. Guy fell out of a group, so I didn't have to buy pts for 3 years like the other guys.

Last year we started doing small drives on WIHAs and it was fun and productive, so this year we're planning some more. I much, much, prefer still hunting to sitting, so it's a chance to stretch my legs. I'm hoping to have my "ultra-light" M7 in .350 done by then, so that's what I'll hopefully use. My overall prospects are looking up, more fruit in my deer engagement area, 3 oak tress are finally producing and my food plots are starting to come up. My neighbor said I'm invited back again this year and a friend of mine is working to get me into a few hunts on another farm.

That blind is AWESOME!

IF it were me, I'd use my cell phone as a WiFi hotspot and telework the entire season!

Georgia has a pretty long season with good bag limits... With the price of meat these days I look forward to filling all my tags... plus some special WMA hunts that don't count towards your limits... Over the years I've mostly hunted for fun... This year it's gonna be for meat...

I saw a couple of nice bucks on my property about a month ago . I have been seeing the older buck for 5 years now , just not while deer hunting . I started 3 beagle puppies last year . I am looking forward to watching them run a rabbit this season , only 2 months away . This will be their first season . Dove season opened last Saturday . I am looking forward to some more dove hunting and getting enough of them for a cookout , with friends and family .

Moved to SD so can do the pedator license. Will try my luck with coyote, crow, and whatever else I'm allowed to get. I'm used to hunting in the mountains of CO, now I have to learn to hunt in flat land again after being away 30 years. Also worries me that there are farms every square mile and have to circle an area before I set up.

At least I can breathe at this altitude..... but I truly do miss my mountains.

All of it! Jonesing for WI bow season opener on Sept 17. Will be good to sit a tree again!

Happy hunting and stay safe this season everyone.

Had some health "issues" that kept me in last season so just getting out will be a step up for me. :)
I found a factory stock for the Remington 721 and cleaned it up and got it all put together.
All it lacks is a period scope for a "retro" deer hunt,(I think a Weaver K4 would be perfect ;)) but I'll just stick with the one on it for now.

Shanghai, if the regular season gets here and you're not having any joy I'll at least put you on some does during the late season. You can chill in my heated elevated stand or I'll setup a ground blind overwatching one of my plots.

Maybe not so much looking forward to but I am studying for a professional exam that I hope to take in Jan. Thus hunting season is going to be going a long way towards me being prepared for it. I have to build a little desk in my blind for my book and notes.

Archery opener Saturday here in GA.

I was seriously looking forward to posting a photo of MY new blind and basking in the approval of all and racking up a bunch of “likes” but Armored farmer ruined it for me.
My blind looks like an outhouse now.

I have felt the same way, did save the photos just in case I ever needed humbling.

Mine don’t require gates, locks and “prison bars” to keep people out of them though, so I’ve got that going for me.;)

Thanks Chuck, I appreciate the offer.
Been seeing a few deer and plenty of sign around my AO so we'll see how it goes here. o_O

Sure thing, just let me know, I'll keep them fed till then. We're looking a pear flavored venison this year.

Spoke with my neighbor this weekend and he wants us to do the doe cull again. So both early and late doe seasons I'll be playing Jagermeister again. As I said in an earlier post, we're also going to be doing a couple WIHA drives this year. Of course all the young Army guys want to walk, carry heavy rifles and large rucks, so we're always short blockers...

All of it! We recently relocated from western Washington to a 50acre plot of land in Al that shares a property line with a Wilderness Area, surrounded by National Forest.
Couldn’t even begin to list all the things I’ve got planned. Very liberal bag limits here, I can shoot up to 3 bucks per year and 1 doe per day. Quite different from the 1 per year allowance in Wa.
Add to that the hog hunting opportunities, small game, waterfowl the list goes on. I’ll be hunting every day again.feeling very fortunate.
this coming year I’ll be putting in some feed plots and fruit trees just for the animals.
Im playing a whole different game now.
