Thoughts on CZ 75 B

The design has been around since 1975, spurred many copy cats, making the CZ 75 design one of the most produced guns in the world.

It's IMO one of the best DA/SA pistols ever built. You'd be hard pressed to find a more ergonomic handgun..

My CZ shadow 2 will run circles around a lot of pistols.

I am a big fan of the CZ75B. Feels terrific in hand. Quite accurate. Uber reliable. Only thing I changed out were the sights, as my aging eyes needed a little help n that department. Would appreciate a little shorter trigger reset, but it’s not a priority for me on mine.

A very comfortable gun in the hand. There is no gun I want to like more than the CZ 75B. However, I don't own one because the DA trigger reach is too long for me and the reach to the thumb safety is also too long for me.

If I were just going to shoot it at the range, I could work around those two things, but if I ever intended to use it as a weapon, I would have problems.

If you want a full size, accurate, and very reliable 9MM, look no further. There are cheaper ones, and more expensive one's, but none better.

Excellent guns, with a ton of aftermarket support. CGW can work wonders on CZs, and sells the parts for the diy crowd.

Very comfortable grip. More accurate than most combat auto pistols. The only real downsides are that a) Nowadays, they're considered heavy and b) since the slide rails tuck INTO the frame instead of riding outside it, there's not a lot of slide to grab ahold of for racking.

If you have a good grip, it's no problem. Otherwise, look at another gun, maybe a SAR version. (made in Turkey and imported by SAR USA) I hear those are excellent.

The fact that the slide runs inside the frame is part of why it is so accurate (same for the Sig P210) so it's a reasonable trade-off, if that's what you're after.

They have a great reputation for good ergos, above average accuracy and good reliability (I happen to agree) but, they don't fit everyone tastes.

Like mine just fine. This is a PreB so an alloy frame which helps with the weight.

My FiL liked my cheap surplus clone so much that he bought himself a "real" one, NiB. He shoots his better than any of his other 9mm pistols. I like mine a lot, too. It probably helps that we both have large hands.

I can shoot a few of my service pistols as accurately as my CZ75 clone, but I can't shoot any of them better.

I love it. If you have small hands (I do) the DA trigger pull is a little far out but not unusable - single action it's just fine. Other than that I have no complaints at all about the design.

Mine was a surplus Israeli one that was in rough shape but I alumahyde'd the frame and replaced the grips.

I always loved the way they felt in my hands, and all of the positive press over the decades kept that desire up. Just a few months ago I bought a 9mm CZ75 P01, which is the version with a full-length frame as @Y-T71 mentioned above.


The first ten shots at 10 yds. were right on the money.

I moved the target from 5-20 yards and kept shooting. I am very happy with the results, only a couole of clinkers that were all on me.



Once this gun was home I later added the CZ 75D Compact 9mm, and a CZ 97B .45 ACP. All three received a Cajun Gun Works spring kit and extended firing pin, the DA and SA trigger pulls on all thee of these guns are outstanding.

I look back and I do wish I had started my CZ experience sooner. These are some of the few guns I own that live up to the praise.

I had a couple years ago. Overrated is the best way for me to describe them. Trigger pull was among the worst I've ever tried, especially in DA. The slide inside the grip is narrow and hard to manipulate and the top of the backstrap curves downward and digs into the web between the thumb and trigger finger when the gun fires. Everything else curves upward away from the hand. Externally they were well finished, but once taken apart the internals were left very rough with exposed tooling and grind marks.

Despite the heavy trigger I did find them to be accurate. Neither of mine were particularly reliable out of the box. CZ sold a bunch of guns a few years ago with poorly made springs. After replacing all of the springs in the guns and magazines they were better. But after having to do that it left a bad taste in my mouth.

I think that in 1975 the design was innovative and at one point they were value priced. Today there are better designs and better values for the money.

The newer P01 does address the grip digging into the hand.

Nice guns.
My first outing with mine was the day I bought it.
Right from the store, it was able to hold about a 4" or so group @ 50 yards - shot from a standing position with a two hand grip.
Pretty good for a combat-type weapon.

Happy with my 75d compact, good ergonomics & trigger. More accurate than most shooters will be. Only thing I changed was the sights, put on a set of cgw tritium sights.

That's probably the best idea.

Try it before buy it.

Like I said in an earlier post, they have a great reputation for a lot of reasons and, IMO, most people like them but it's certainly inevitable that some just won't like it.

I like mine. Best pistol I ever owned. Have I owned a lot of pistols? Nope.

My thought about the cz 75….

Be careful, once you get the first one, they start to multiply!

It is my 9mm carry gun of choice. But, like all sidearms, you may or may not like it. I know the Glock 19 is a great pistol, but I don’t personally care for it. The CZ carry’s, points, and shoots great…for me.

Pull trigger. Gun goes "bang." Spent case ejects. Hole in target (usually). Repeat as desired.

In all seriousness, CZ pistols are great guns. I own a 75B, a CZ Custom SP-01, and a 75D PCR. If I thought there was a better handgun made in the ENTIRE WORLD, I'd buy that brand instead.

I have a 75 BD and a P0-1 along with the Kadet .22 lr conversion.

All accurate, reliable, and a joy to shoot.

As a bonus they’re among the best looking semi-autos.

I have 2 of them, purchased about 5 1/2 years apart. The first one I purchased is the one with the wood grips. It has more than 4 thousand (closer to 5) rounds through it with about half of that being steel cased tula. It has never jammed, stove piped, failure to ejected, nothing, it just goes bang when the trigger is pulled. The other one has not seen nearly as many rounds but I have no doubt it will prove to be as reliable.

For the money, a 75b cannot be beat.

Love the 75 series but that absurdly long beavertail had a tendency to spear the web on my hand when drawing. Didn't take but a couple draws from concealment to lose the skin and get the blood flowing. I may try again one day but for the life of me I can't understand how extended beaver tails are so popular. Aside from that the tiny sights are difficult to pick up will likely be the first thing that gets replaced. Before I dropped mine from rotation I added some Cajun parts in the slide and frame to lighten to double action. Had I kept carrying I would have added a grooved trigger because the one that comes on it is slick as snot and isn't great for accuracy when you're hands are sweaty/bloody. If it doesn't work out as a carry gun its still a fine blaster. I still shoot mine ocassionaly for fun.

If you reload, be aware that the throat on this thing is super short. Failure to chamber was common. I had quite the time getting an OAL to function. Mine likes .358" cast bullets and leads horribly with anything smaller.

My CZ-85B (ambi version of the CZ-75B) was my first 9mm. It's a 1994 production example that I bought NIB at a 1999 gun show in Topeka, KS at age 23. It came with one factory Hillary magazine- the aftermarket 15 rounders at the time we're junk. Once I was able to get quality 15 rounders post-2004, it's utility was magnified. Like many gun of it's era, I would take it over 99% polystrikers on the market.
