I stopped in to Weaponsmart in Lewiston last week, and mentioned that I hoped primers would be more available soon. The man behind the counter said it’s unlikely to change because the big three primer makers are all owned by the same company and have said they will no longer sell to the public.
After absorbing that, I mentioned that there was a new primer plant being built in Texas, to which he responded that it had been cancelled and wouldn’t be built.
All true, I’m sure ;)

It was about 1 1/2 years ago when ammo was tight that I woke up to the reality that Vista Group had control of 3 out of 4 of the primer options, and if anything happened there, it would be over. Too many eggs in one basket. That was when I got back into reloading after a decades long break. Accumulating both equipment and components. And the #1 target for me was primers. Got what I could, when I could. As a low volume shooter, my stash is pretty small compared to what some guys go thru, but enough that something shows up what needs plugging won't go unplugged for want of a primer to make something go BANG!

Having said that, last brick of LRP I found was a month or so back, and that was a large stack of Rem 9 1/2's. They had the waterfront covered.......SPP, LPP, SRP and LRP, and Cheddite 209's. Looked like they were selling components to me.

So hopefully, the source of this rumor was wrong. They will cycle back, and in abundance.........just as they have always done.
 
Well, 3 out of the 4 US Makers. Russian primers won't be coming in, but that still leaves Unis Ginex, Mag Tech, Fiocci, a couple of Spanish companies, and a few others that will start showing up in numbers at some point. Target Sports USA just got a huge dump of primers, small pistol, large pistol, and small rifle...mostly Federal. They are showing several HUNDRED 5000ct cases in stock with no limit, 599.00 including shipping and hazmat.
 
Must be gettin his info where the Salesperson from Academy is,,, She said they just sold the last large rifle primers they had that morning,,, :rofl:

Several hundred in stock, 5000 ct at $599. Wonder how long that will last?

I can pay $100 or $125 for a brick here and there, but for me to spend $600 at one time would stretch my budget rather thin for the month. I know people will, but I wonder how long it will be before they start breaking those cases down into bricks.

I've been buying primers from TSU for about a year now, never seen them break them down. Since they appeared this morning, I've seen their counters for the large pistol drop down from 99+ in stock, to 40 ish for the match large pistol, so they are selling stupid fast still. Their rifle has been around for a while, and the small pistol is going down a lot slower. This is the only place I've been able to buy in 5K cases for 2 years now.
 
I was in a gun store Saturday... An older farmer (75'ish) was there chewing the fat... He mentioned how hard it was to get primers... And how he doesn't handload that much anymore (and rarely shoots) but had purchased 50k (that's 50,000) of various sizes just in case... my niece's husband's dad has 100k he's built up... Doesn't even shoot much anymore... We live where capitalism is king... But hoarding is one of the reasons for the primer desert... (Not the least or only reason though) Really I'm just mad at myself because I didn't hoard any of them when they were cheap... At 10¢ each (over 15¢ at times during the dempanic) somebody will fill the void soon... The market will always find a way....I'm seeing a bunch more foreign primers coming to market also... Gun stores have to make money (and I love the guys around here) and will market themselves and the ammo they wanna sell... so take all with a grain of salt... That’s a popular comment during shortages/panics but it just doesn’t bear scrutiny. An entire reloading industry with powder manufacturers, bullet manufacturers, brass manufacturers, equipment manufacturers wouldn’t exist if primers were only incidentally available.

That's a pretty good price, depending on what they charge for HazMat. The best prior price I've seen for Genix SPP has been $450/5k, but that included shipping and HazMat

I noticed that these are for the brass primers as opposed to the nickled ones. The ones with the nickle color primers are a lot harder to find

I doubt that is true. If you have some proof of that, I would like to see it.

Manufacturers have contracts with distributors as well as with ammo makers.
