Ideally, on a semiauto handgun, should the red dot be mounted closer to the muzzle or closer to the back?
I mounted mine to the front for no reason other than because.
I figured forward for precision, aft for field of view.

I think of red dots as minute of target, not necessarily precision. They offer the benefit of getting on target quickly, but usually the dot is 3 to 6 MOA.

Don't know about yours, but my red dot covers up less of the target than my irons do.

Never mind the fact that at 25yds 3moa is what 3/4 of an inch.

That and dot size is a preference you can choose on based on your liking. There are plenty of 1 MOA dots out there if you want one but most people prefer a larger dot as they're faster to pick up on.

I'm not sure it would matter much. I had a little wiggle room on my Trailside. I put it as far back as I could.

for whatever reason, I prefer a red dot a bit closer to my eye. don't know if that is right or wrong, tried it both ways, just seemed a bit better to me.

I found the best place for mine was next to the laser - in the drawer.

I could never get mine to work right with my eyesight to way is was.
