On another forum someone living in New York was complaining that they'd bought a Ruger 10/22 but before their waiting period was up, new legislation had taken effect requiring some new license or permit for semi auto rifles, and neither LEO nor his firearms dealer knew quite what that was.

So for those unfortunate enough to live in ban states, a pump action is a solid option.
As I get older I'm finding pump & bolt actions have some benefits to semi autos.

I'm in a free state, but even I've gone to exclusively shooting manual actions. Less cleaning, rarely any ammo compatability issues. (I'm looking at you, Marlin 981T that will only reliably extract Remington ammo but which I won't sell because they're out of production and hard to find.)

Perhaps I've just outgrown mag-dumping 22s.
