I like my $450 Extar EP9 Gen2 more than the CZ Scorpion Evo 3 - Tell me why I'm wrong:

I've now fired both firearms, and fired both in approximately the same barrel lengths/formats (but even in the somewhat longer barreled Evo, I think the following comments hold true - I've not fired then 16'' Scorpion though, but thats not really what I'm comparing here).

As such, I can confirm (at least with the EP9 in its Gen 2 form - I never fired the Gen 1 EP9), but in regards to the EP9's recoil-impulse and accuracy, the EP9 G2 is equal-to or superior-to, its much more expensive CZ competitor in these regards IME.

I found, especially, the recoil/firing to be "smoother" in the EP9 for lack of a better word. And concerning this, please see the videos below; because weirdly enough, they both use the exact same term to describe the EP9 Gen 2.

NOTE: I did change my brace to a SB SOB15 brace (that came on the Gen 1) - but these reviewers did not:

The Gen 2 EP9 is also a better shooter than the Gen1 and all reviews seems to confirm it shoots shockingly "smooth" - please see these videos:

EDIT: Please watch these videos if you have not shot the EP9 Gen 2 (the Gen 1 is not as good a firearm, see video 2. Just in the off chance you've shot the Gen1 and formed opinions from that)

Graham Baates review (a excellent reviewer and professional firearms journalist, who I respect greatly, says its better than any AR-9 and he can't stop singing the gun's praises):

EP9 Gen 1 vs Gen 2 in depth comparison (All three shooters find the Gen 2 the superior firearm - clearly more than aesthetics/ergo chargeswere made IMO)

Ultimately, even if you feel the EP9 and Scorpion are equal in performance, for the money I think the EP9 just makes more sense.

edit: Also I love the adjustable trigger that now comes with the EP9, I have it down just below 4lbs now. Though I may swap it for an even lighter AR trigger.

But you'd be hard pressed to convince me that the CZ as anything more than equal to the Extar EP9 G2 in performance.

edit: Durability may favor the CZ possibly, but I don't know if on the Gen2, that switched to an all steel fire-control group, if that is the case. With the EP9 Gen 1, I certainly would assume the CZ would be more durable.

Note: I hate the grip angle on most CZ Scorpions

The Extar is awesome, glad you seem to be happy with yours. Given the price point, Glock magazine compatibility, ergonomics, low recoil, reliability, durability, light weight, and ability to accept accessories, I do think it is really hard to beat as a large frame pistol/PCC. You don't even need to lube it, and they do seem to quite tough as well. I've seen reviews with guys over 8,000 rounds through them and abuse them terribly and they just keep on ticking along.

Whether or not it is better than the CZ Scorpion, I have no idea. But I have no desire to buy one. For the cost of the CZ you could get 2 Extars or 1 Extar and 1 Kel-Tec Sub 2000 which is what I did. I think the Gen 2 model is basically the mythical Glock carbine that was never made...

That said, it is something that has to be experienced to be fully understood. Most people will just dismiss it is a cheap junk because it is mostly polymer. But I do think it was extremely well designed and executed. However, it's future is uncertain as who knows what will happen if/when the ATF goes through with their brace ban. I guess you could just take the brace off and put a buffer tube cover on it or something.

Some other vids you might enjoy if you haven't seen them already...

I've had my Gen 1 for several years and it definitely punches well above it's price point. Haven't put a ton of rounds through it but it has worked very well and is very accurate at 25 yds.

Thanks guys! Good input, I honestly expected more anger at the statement. But everything was very constructive, as almost always is here at The High Road... as the name would imply :)

I honestly wanted people to tell me I was dead wrong, was curious what others who had tried both would say.

Oh, and here's a great write-up on the Gen2:

Having not shot either the Extar nor the Scorpion, I will say that the ability to attach a folding and/or collapsible stock to the CZ is an advantage, especially if one wishes to have the most compact package possible. While I like traditional ARs, their biggest flaw, in my opinion, is how the buffer tube limits their ability to be compact. And yes, I’m familiar with the LAW folders, but I don’t like how they do not permit the firing (at least more than a single shot, in the folded configuration.
