They say the only stupid questions are the ones you don't ask...so here goes...

I'd like to silence both a 9mm pistol AR which has a 5/8-24 thread and a 300BO pistol with a 1/2-28 barrel (assuming the flash-hider is removed from both). Is it possible to do both with the same 5/8-24 threaded suppressor (using a 1/2-28 to 5/8-24 adaptor for the 300 BO)? Does such a suppressor exist?

Easily many of the QD systems will work and suppressor companies use the same thread so you can use different brand of mount as your can.
I have a Torrent T9k which is very similar to the newish YHM 9mm can (I forget the model) but I use a Griffin taper mount system and have run it on a 9mm a 300 BO a 5.56 and 350 Legend.

ETA you sure the blackout is 1/2-28 mine have all been 5/8-24

Sure. Like the other guys have said, a variety of muzzle devices can be used. Or they make adapters you can use to change your thread pitch.

What you will be looking for is essentially a 9mm or greater diameter can that isn't a pistol can, then use adapters or mounts to make it work.

Some examples are:

Rex silentiun mg7 https://rexsilentium.com/MG7-K-Rifle-Suppressor-358-9mm-8-6-Blackout-p148946052

Or the silencerco omega 36 https://www.capitolarmory.com/silencerco-omega-36m-modular-suppressor.html

Heck, this whole list https://www.capitolarmory.com/suppressor/multi-caliber.html

And many more.......

I went with a Griffin Armament Bushwhacker 46 that's going on a AR9, 15, and 10.

There's plenty of other cans and mounting systems that will cover all your bases.

You always have the option of thread adapters, but there's little need of them in today's market if you choose wisely. Dedicated direct thread cans do have their place, but it's not for suppressors that need to fill more than one roll.

1.375-24 Bravo (HUB) threads in the back of cans is industry standard, gives you the option of direct thread mounts in almost any imaginable thread, or a range of quick detach and taper mounts. If you plan to swap hosts frequently, you'll probably want one adapter in the can which fits muzzle devices on both hosts.

As for cans, there are quite a few options out there. If you're only going to shoot subsonic loads, most 9mm pistol cans will work fine. If high velocity loads are on to be used, you're looking at rifle cans with .36 cal or larger bore. If nothing over 9mm/.358 cal is on the menu, I recommend against the big bore "do-all" cans like the Hybrid or Bushwhacker. They just don't do well with smaller calibers.

I've used my 9mm can on my .300 BLK with an adaptor. Mine isn't rated for .300 BLK so I have only used it a handful of times with subsonic rounds on a bolt action Ruger American Ranch. Some 9mm cans are rated for supersonic .300 BLK.

Firing a 30cal bullet through a 9mm can will give less than ideal results. Been there done that. A 9mm silencer was the first silencer I tried on my 30carbine.

Depends on the can and the round.

We have three 9mm models that are pistol cans, and they do well with subsonic .300 blk, .32-20 and other low pressure rounds.

We also make .36 cal rifle cans that do pretty good with 9mm hangun cartridges, and very well with .308, .300 win mag, .350 rem mag, etc. These are high velocity optimized, different baffle profile and spacing than pistol cans, as well as larger diameter and beefier.

Stepping up to the .46 cal stuff will hurt you with small bores, but a .36/9mm can is only ~.05" overbore for .30 at around .415" vs .365-.375 for typical. 30 suppressors. In point of fact, with .30 cans meant for com bloc guns, or really long ones, I bore the baffles to .435" due to the likely axial alignment error.

Mine was a typical 1.375 inch by about 7 inch long silencer filled with k baffels intended for a 9x19para or 380acp, etc.
My 30carbine loads weren't even full power.

Like I said, depends on the can and round. K baffles in general are not good performers with higher velocity rounds.

That said, unless you were holding the breech closed, port noise/piston pop probably dominated. Most gas operated rifles are gonna be over 140 dB at shooter's ear regardless of suppressor muzzle performance due to that. The AR with Stoner gas system, adjusted, will get below that threshold, but barely. FALs, AKs, Gail's, etc, all still gonna be quite loud to shooter, even if you put a super efficient monster of a can on them.
