"budget exotic" rifles: help me with a new hunting gun

There's ATA Arms out of Turkey.

I have zero experience with them, but they sound nice on paper for a hunting rifle. Copied from their website:

"Turqua is distinguished from the other bolt action rifles with its 3-stage safety and 2-stage adjustable trigger. Turqua’s 60-degree bolt lift is shorter (compared to typical 90-degree bolt throw) that allows faster loading on follow-up shots. The free-floating feature maintains barrel to stock spacing for consistent accuracy. SUB-MOA at 3 shots is guaranteed with this button-rifled barrel."

That checks about every box I'd like in a hunting rifle, personally. They also have a number of models with iron sights, options of nice Walnut, laminate, synthetic and camo stocks, adjustable or traditional fixed. Threaded or plain muzzles too.

Limited selection on cartridges currently. Only 308win, 6.5CM and 243Win. Proprietary magazines as well. Not deal breakers, but I've already got 2 308win's, a 6.5CM and a 243Win barrel I need to find an action for.

Certainly a good looking rifle. I think they got something for just about everyone in their lineup. As long as you want one of those three cartridges. If they announce a 375 Ruger or 358win I might have to find a way to pick one up.

Find a used Sako or Husqvarna with a mauser style actions. They are high quality, a little exotic but not too exotic. The name brand Sakos are a bit more pricey but you can find Husqvarna and imported Husqvarna for really respectable prices. Most of the used ones are in very American cartridges such as .30-06, .270, and .243. But if you ordered a new one you could get it in something fun like your 9.3, 375HH, me personally? 6.5X55 Swede.

Those are cool!

Wasnt the S&W bolt action a Husqvarna made rifle?

CZ, they have a new rifle. I am a fan of Tikka. Tikka checks all the boxes for me.

Considering the environment and it's potential affect, I'd probably recommend to steer clear of anything that isn't synthetic/stainless. A lot of walking would dissuade me from wanting anything weighty...which could in turn be a reason to avoid any big boomers.

But I rarely follow my own advice and never do the most sensible thing... So I'd be on board with the Ruger #1 in a true thumper like the .375 H&H @silicosys4 mentioned, unless he has the only one in existence.
Or take something I already have, get something I really want and leave it at home.

Not really exotic...

But my last hunt got me craving a new rifle.

But I like things that are a little different. I've considered the usual suspects like Savage and Winchester and more hipster options like Tikka or Bergara.

But I'm really wanting something cool. I'm looking at the Sauer 100 or Mauser M18. Both are nearly the same rifle. Considered the new CZ 600 but their recall is a little concerning.

Thinking of 9.3x62 for bigger animals even though I already have a 338.

Or going 30-06 or 308 for variety.

Plan to use in Alaska, for anything from deer to sheep to caribou to moose or even black bear.

Any experience or opinions on the Sauer or Mauser budget options??

Might just go with a Ruger M77 compact if all else fails.
Just bought a new Sauer 100 Classic in 9.3x62.
Need to go zero. Quality is excellent.
A fairly obscure chambering that always intrigued me.

OP here,

Well I think I have my options limited down.

Steyr THB 16" (cool, accurate, but heavy)

Sauer Pantera (not as heavy, still packable)

CZ 600 (has an the features I want at a great price, concerned about CZ QC and recall recently with the Colt merger)

Any thoughts??

The cz recall was not quality issue, it was an issue where the gun would still fire if the barrel was swapped and put on wrong. That said, I have heard rumors that instead of cz taking over colt, Colt is going to be running cz (into the ground)

Yeah I'm worried about the recall, not because I care about barrel swapping, but because it really screwed up the roll out and reputation of the line. Add on the rumors of QC issues from the "merger". Just makes me wary to buy a new rifle as a beta tester that has any recall that might be from a company that might be going through issues.

I actually found some of these online. Price might be a little too high though. Almost puts them in Tikka territory. Still keeping an eye on them if prices start to reflect usual Turkish low prices

SAKO or SAUER as I'm not certain Mauser can be had :

7mm Remington Magnum, or .300 Winchester Magnum. would be MY choice .

I should add IMO there isn't anything in North America that can't be taken with in ethical hunting range with either . As with Africa again in MY opinion ,90% of Game animals can be taken with either . Heavy armor or heavy weights Hippo Elephant Rhino Cape buffalo oh Hell NO ,Lions YES from a marginal distance . PH normally demand clients use .30 cal and dangerous game Min. .375 as many Countries and districts enforce that law . Key with any hunting situation is animal presentation distance and POI ,IF those stars align you're favorable odds just increased a bunch .

I used a Mauser chambered in 9.3x62 one year in Namibia for a variety of game. It is an OK cartridge that effective and is very popular with the German speaking crowd. It was a good and relatively inexpensive solution for the German farmers in Africa. It is very similar to the 35 Whelen, and is a "Jack of all trades".

It seems to be a compromise as it does not have the punch of a 375 (either H&H or Ruger), but it also does not have quite as much recoil. I have a 375 Ruger and a 375 H&H, both can easily be downloaded to 9.3x62 level. If I was buying a medium rifle now it would be a 375 Ruger.

I guess your idea of a budget rifle is a little different than mine, but I'm cheap.;) I really like the CZ's but I, like you, am concern with Quality Control of the new guns. You will never know until you pull the trigger. (Pun intended}

I think if I were in Alaska I would be looking at a Stainless Tikka T3x in 30-06. I am thinking .308 here in Minnesota if I can find one not in 6.5 Creedmoor.
