Sorry about the health problems. At least you can watch the camera footage.... Pretty neat Bear. We always have dear in our back yard throughout the day. My kids and I just like watching them. Seems our property has become a safe zone the last 10 years or so for them. I need to get them a salt block.

Thanks Startling. It came upon me as a huge surprise but at 75 years old, body parts are wearing out or have already worn out. Pacemaker may help but I feel it may be time to transfer ownership of the land to my son or sell. I will revisit these thought in a few months. If I do sell, I will be very picky to whom I sell to with convenances to always keep this land hunting land and never allowing development or subdivisions. I am within a mile of 14000 acres of WMA and surrounded by other large land owners. All of us want to keep this land as it is and to enjoy all the wildlife here.

Would be nice if you could keep it in the family IMO but I guess that all depends on your sons interests. Dont give up yet. My Grandma and Grandpa hunted into her 90s and and didnt stop until they passed. I have not hunted for many years but I still enjoy watching the wildlife. Not sure I would like seeing that bear walking through my back yard though!

Cougars average a deer a week.
One with two almost grown kittens will kill a deer every two days.
Coyotes with pups will kill a fawn a day to feed themselves and their pups.
They set a trail cam on a coyote den in Kansas and that one pair of Coyotes killed fourty-six deer fawns to feed the pups. So they are right up there to almost couger kill rate on deer.
Bears are another deer fawn killing machine.
Both black bears and grizzly bears.
They game department here in Washington state says the wolves migrated here in to the state from Canada and Idaho
I call BS on that one. When they get established the totally wipe out the deer and elk in their range territory.

I travel back to New York every year from Washington state to do deer hunting for a month.
The last three years I started taking my grandson back for small game hunting for two weeks prior to deer hunting.
I stay at my brother's place back in Upstate New York. Last year we started trapping. We only had a few traps set out and caught two fishers and three red foxes.
This year we bought a whole bunch of traps and supplies to trap fishers foxñ Coyotes and bobcat.
We will see how it goes. I take my grandson back to Upstate New York Tuesday morning for two weeks. We will set up a trapline October 25th. We fly back to Seattle on November 2nd and I fly back to Syracuse on November 16th for a month.

When we get there in a couple of days we will make up a bunch of waxed dirt for when it gets cold out for covering the traps .
I just picked up two beavers for trap bait that I will take back to new York on Tuesday.

If any of you guys see any predators while out hunting take them out.
You will be helping out game animals.

Hey neighbor, Ol' Buddy Ol' Pal. I'm 4 miles from the bypass on Hyw 5, so if you need me to set up a blind and chauffer you around you can message me. I'm three years your junior.

Captcurt. really appreciate the offer. At this time, walking from my bedroom to the living room (about 20 steps) makes me feel like I have just climbed a very steep mountain and I am out of breath and completely exhausted. My son in out on the property at this time putting up several hundred more t-posts. I wish I was out there helping him but it is impossible to leave the house. We got home healthcare nurses coming to our home to take blood for the lab because I cannot make the trip to the Dr. Office. Hunting is the least of my worries right now even though I yearn to go at least one more time. When I am sitting and doing nothing I feel pretty good so for now, being on the computer and watching re runs on TV is the extent of my activities. Again, thanks for the offer that was very kind of you.

I am sorry to hear of your health issues preventing an activity you love. You could put your land into a conservation easement to ensure non-development. The encumbrance of a conservation easement would likely be at least somewhat off-putting to many future buyers and may result on an impact to value of the land, should you or your heirs desire to sell, but could be one pathway to stave off development.

The offer stands. If you need anything, just let me know.

Sorry to hear of your health issues. I too have issues at 74 going on 75 on deer opener. If it weren't for the support of my buddy and son I wouldn't be hunting.Wish you well.

I’m in the same boat buddy. I’ve been dealing with a rare thymic carcinoma (cancer) since last November. I’ve been through immunotherapy and chemotherapy. Looks like they are finally going to operate to remove the mass in my chest. But…..probably going to happen right before our bear and deer gun season here in PA.

Here’s to hoping for a better season next year!

My dad battled CHF for years. I know exactly what you mean about not having energy to do more than walk to the living room. I pray you'll be able to hunt at least one more season.
I'm looking at possibly not hunting this year too. It is a bummer because I was looking forward to my first full season back in the Ozarks. I'm about 2 hours North of you in Missouri.
