Red Dot on my Maverick 88

Looks like a TRS-25 . . . you need to go more tacticool like this tho . . .

Note the high definition stock which helps you see as well as the sling attachments which allow you to hang your shotgun on walls and stuff

And a nice thing is if the battery dies or the optic fails, it can still be used like a big ghost ring sight.

I am surprised that the Maverick 88 shotguns are not drilled and tapped for a mount. It's not like it would take very long to do so at the factory. Having the receiver drilled and tapped makes it nicer and easier to mount optics.

Reviews on the Maverick 88 are overwhelmingly positive. It’s a $200 shotgun. I didn’t expect a lot of bells and whistles when I plunked down my debit card.

If they d&t them then most people wouldn't buy the more pricy models, I think in a way I like the 88 more then he 500 and if paying for a 590 best get the A1. I'll pick one of the full tube 88s when I see them more reasonably priced local.

Nothing against the 88, they are very dependable shotguns. As a retired tool and die maker, I know that it would not take much at al to drill and tap the 88 receivers along side the 500 and 590 receivers since the only difference between the 88 and the 500/590 receivers is the safety location.

I think most gunsmiths charge $50 per hole for D&T, I have $30 in the mount. The Maverick will never be my flagship firearm. As a matter of fact it is the lowest price I’ve paid for a Gun in recent years. I don’t care if it’s not D&T’ed, it’s just a better. Believe me I’d rather have a 97 trench gun but I don’t, I have the 88. I’ll make do.

Because then it becomes basically an M500, and costs the same, and becomes redundant in their line-up. The first M88 I bought @ 30 years ago only had one action slide bar and the receiver slot wasn't milled for the second bar. The 88 is the work-truck/rental-fleet equivalent in the Maverick/Mossberg line-up.

Sorry, I look at things differently than most here. I look at things from a manufacturing point of view since I am a retired machinist/tool and die maker. And it does not take much more time to drill and tap the 88 receiver, especially since jigs are used for this anyway. And having the 88 receivers drilled and tapped still won't take away from the 500 or 590 lineup.

Having a jig setup for drilling and tapping does not take away from the manufacturing process and is very quick to do.
