Who bought the last guns you sold?

Thinking back, I straight-out sold a Model 700 BDL Varmint Special to a local friend many years ago. Other than that, I think I've only sold to people who responded to my GB offerings in the last 10 years or so.
When I was a teenager and early 20s I had a local gunsmith/dealer who made a great offer to me. He said that any gun I bought from him, he'd allow me what I paid for it in trade for anything else in the future, and if the trade-in was worth more than the next gun I got, I'd have the credit on my "account." What he was basically doing was giving me the opportunity to take one gun at a time of anything he took into his inventory, use it for as long as I wanted, keep it if I wanted, or swap it out for something else later. I got to try a LOT of different guns that way. My eventual keeper was a 1976 model SP-1 that is an excellent gun.

My brother has ended up with the last 3 I've parted with. He still has 2 of them and whether or not he keeps them will determine whether or not I sell him any more. He has a tendency to tell me he really wants such and such, then I cave and sell it to him for what I have in it. He then trades it off and wants to tell me about how he only has X amount of $ in his new gun. Yeah, I coulda done that just as easily.

I sold a handgun - I think a S&W Shield or the like - to a young lady at the last gun show. She had all the needed proofs of residence (both nation and state) and proof of a background check. Not to mention she met my minimal price. I rather approve of women owning firearms.

The last, a forum member offered up a specimen I had been searching for for a while. We met and made the deal.
I posted a sale, an acquaintance on the forum, jumped on the deal. Told me he had been waiting for the day I was ready to sell.

Happy to know he will appreciate it. It was a good chooter, but not what I wanted.

I'm downsizing my collection, so a bunch went to an auction house in the area. I don't know who bought them and I don't care. Interestingly, the auction guy wouldn't take a couple of AKs because he said he doesn't like the people who buy them.

Yep, Walt ... great guy. First met him when I was President of the Ithaca Club down here in SC, but it was when he did a book signing with the Sandusky guys at a Buddy of mine's LGS in Wilmington.

I've still got a few ... ones owned by my Grandfather and Father and some others I had duplicates-of. But I had just about every gauge and grade from 1937-1972 when they moved to their new plant and things changed. All slam fires, all 95% or better.

Walt is a great guy. The M37 is a great shotgun.

I actually own two of the modern Sandusky builds as well and they are very very well made. They're upholding the old tradition.

Oh, also, I had two trench guns, WWII provenance, I had one riot gun that was used in the infamous prison riot put-down and I had one that was used in Ocklawaha, Florida to take-down Ma Barker plus I had several with factory installed Cutts and Poly-Chokes ... which were fairly rare, with provenance. And some others ... it was a heckuva collection I spent forty years assembling but it was time to downsize.

You're not supposed to sell a gun. Once you own it you own it forever!!

That's great. I'd love to see and handle a collection like that to see examples over the years. I only have 3 of them, but the earlier Model 37s are my favorite pump guns because I admire the quality and the way they were built, and I like the way they fit me. I also like the company history, especially in the pre-67-ish era. I have examples from 1950, 1952, and 1966 (that I put a '52-model stock and forearm on), but I've shortened the barrels and had screw-in chokes installed, added recoil pads, and shortened the LOP a little on two of them, so they're not original in those regards. The metal was great on all of mine but the wood needed refinishing, so I did that as well. I love shooting them all, but at about 6.5 pounds they do have some recoil with some loads.

I bought a pristine copy of Mr. Snyder's book off of E-bay. It turned out that he was the seller, said he was selling a copy that he'd kept for his daughter, and for some reason that I don't recall, they didn't need it.

Unless you're taking them to the grave with you (or you're buying crap guns that don't last), you're only the caretaker for a bit. I've got guns that are nearly 3 times my age with zero doubt they'll be around that many more years. Just not with me, whether I sell them or whomever is stuck settling my affairs does.
When I can't or don't enjoy it anymore, it's time for that gun to find a new home.

Anybody else think these are great threads for the Feds to read? Maybe it's just me.

I saw the writing on the wall in 2020 and the money was amazing. I let lose of my accumulation and I don't feel bad about it.

Maybe. The feds have a tough enough time keeping track of the info they already have, like old 4473's. That being said, last gun I sold was to a middle aged male. That'll narrow it down for them.

I sold an SKS rifle last year to an FFL at a gun show. I had bought it in the 1980's new. It came with 1000 rounds of Chinese made ammo, a bandolier, and no bayonet for $79 then. I sold it to the dealer in As - New condition with 600 rounds of that same ammo and the bandolier for $675.

Consigned a Shield at LGS a couple years ago. I sold a SP101 357 more recently to a LGS to finance a GP100 3" 357. I may buy back the SP101 if it hasn't sold by the time I get some fishing tournament winnings I won.

Sold 3 long guns in the last 5 years or so while downsizing everything. Two at a LGS on consignment and one at a local auction house that does an occasional gun auction, so I have no idea where they went.

I have no clue. I have been going the consignment route and have been extremely pleased...

Sold mine to people I met on Rimfire Central...two guns and two scopes. And one rifle via THR. I've met a number of good people on these sites.

I have no idea. The last time I sold a gun was about 1983, but M.S. has since stolen away any memory of who it was.

I have since given guns away to my children, but that may be outside the scope of your question.
