Today I enjoyed the outdoors. I chose to carry......

Apparently 10 photos is the limit.

20221030_120241.jpg
This is the bottom of Buffalo Falls.

20221030_120228.jpg

Somebody put this beam across the creek as a bridge. True story bro there was ice on it. I almost busted my ass.

20221030_125656.jpg

This is looking back towards Buffalo Cañon from the Daniel Pass trail.

20221030_131704.jpg

In case anyone was wondering this is exactly where I was at.
20221030_123518.jpg

This is looking back down Sweetwater Cañon from Mount Muscoco.

20221030_135026.jpg

This is looking down from Mount Muscoco back towards the Helen Hunt Falls Visitor Center.

20221030_132003.jpg

Never pass up an opportunity to shake hands with a tree.
20221030_150942.jpg

And this was looking East towards Colorado Springs on my way back out.

20221030_151850.jpg

And these were the knives I was carrying. If you're going to stick a knife in a tree make sure it's a dead tree.

According to my pedometer I walked 17 and a half miles. I don't know how accurate that is but I do know it took me 9 hours

Thanks for sharing. No idea who owns the house but that makes me a little envious

Yesterday was a beautiful day up in the foothills. But it was also very windy, which I didn't realize until I was halfway there. I made the best of it though, gaining about 1,000' on a quick 2 mile round trip to somewhere back behind that ridge.

This general area seems to have spots of flat and mostly exposed granite dotted about it. Which are often good places to have brass eject for collection, on those quick shooting sessions I sometime enjoy during my wandering. (With a hill or slope as a safe backstop of course)
IMG_20221105_143452098.jpg

Other spots have odd features like this one. Which halfway makes me wish I had a few Lego men to set a scene with.

It doesn't matter how pretty or dull the rock is, the Glock is just as ugly as ever.

"Glock on a rock" that could be a "new thing".
Great post.

Sig on a pig......? Kahr on a......car? Kimber in the timber?:scrutiny:
Nevermind.

The Green Settlement

I did a new hike today from Helen Hunt Falls to The Green Settlement. 11 mile round trip. I have been looking for information on the Green Settlement but I haven't found any yet. The buildings were clearly built in the 20th century.

Started at Helen Hunt Falls
20221106_080520.jpg

Hiked up to the top of Buffalo Cañon 20221106_083038.jpg

Then to the top of the Buffalo Cañon Trail.

Where I stopped to adjust my pack and get the gun selfie out of the way. Glock 19 and Buck 110 Slim Select

Went to the bottom of the falls 20221106_085613.jpg

Some people get really butt hurt when people hang bird houses out in the woods but I'm sure the birds appreciate it. Thanks Jackie Lee 20221106_090419.jpg

See Next Post

This map sign is at the intersection of the Daniel's Pass and Sweetwater Cañon Trail.
Where I was going is in the lower right corner.
20221106_100322.jpg

At the intersection of The Sweetwater Cañon Trail and the Mount Muscoco trail I bore right down into Sweetwater Cañon. 20221106_101925.jpg

The trail to Green Settlement is so small I missed it the first time.
20221106_111822.jpg

The post in the lower right is the trail sign for the intersection of Sweetwater and Middle Sweetwater Cañon Trail. The Green Settlement Trail is behind it to the left 20221106_111907.jpg

Outbound from North Cheyenne Cañon Park, even though it's South Cheyenne Cañon.

You can barely see the chimneys on the Left. 20221106_115451.jpg

Tried to hike to Deer Park from The Seven Bridges Trail. Didn't work out..

That's the West End of the Seven Bridges Trail.
20221113_105604.jpg

This is where I crossed over the Creek to the new Trail.
20221113_105948.jpg
See how the sign says "Deer Park 2.8 Miles"?
It SHOULD say Deer Park Trailhead 2.8 Miles.

20221113_110401.jpg

Notice there are No footprints in that snow? Should have been a clue.
20221113_090218.jpg
The creek was frozen (at least there).
20221113_113004.jpg
And this is where I hit the Pipeline trail which was a motor cycle trail

I don't have any idea what happened but obviously the first three photos are the same photo repeated three times. But if you go to the attachment all the way at the bottom it will show the three photos that I was trying to put in this post

I didn't think there was any water in Sweetwater Cañon but I found Sweetwater Creek today.

This Bench overlooks South Cheyenne Cañon. 20221120_113833.jpg
Looking out from the bench. I live here so I know what I looking at. That's the local training area on Fort Carson.

Edit for clarification: the horizon is the LTA. that ridge runs right across the south end of the Manuver box.

Yesterday, I did some relic hunting on the hunting property with the old metal detector. Found a bunch of stuff, nothing valuable, but some cool old things you guys might like.
View attachment 1110642
Lots of iron, nails, bolts, wire, bits of chain, and two broken horse shoe halves, and a heap of shotgun shell bases.

View attachment 1110641
Only one of those shell bases dates from post WWII all the rest date from ~1915 to 1930 give or take a few years, except a Wester Cartridge Company one that dates from 1889 - 1914. In the center is also a 32 rimfire but it was too corroded to tell if its a short or long.

I did not go unarmed and its a good thing because two tactical opossums tried to put the sneak on me. The old Model 10 and my new 148gr LHP reloads made short work of them.

View attachment 1110640 View attachment 1110639
I am really pleased with this new load compared to shooting 158gr XTPs from this revolver. There was noticeable more damage with these bullets since they open much more reliably.

Late that afternoon I dump the metal detector in the truck and grab my deer rifle for a little scouting. While sitting on a stump enjoying the beautiful weather the armadillos attempted a revenge hit and I caught this one putting on the sneak through the leaves at about 60 yards. I have killed a heap of armadillos with summer with 300 BO (subsonic) and 38 special and those work but rarely kill the armadillo DRT but a 30 RAR pushing 150gr Core-lock at 2400 fps takes the damage to another level of bad things to them.

View attachment 1110638
Not the best shot placement since in the deep leave I though his head was his tail and vice versa, none-the-less the armadillo did not move an inch after I hit him. The trigger sticks are awesome for stalking through the woods.
That model 10 has been a faithful sidearm of yours for quite a while. You shoot it well too.
That makes me want to land on one of mine and stick with it. But, which one?
What holster do you use while roaming around?

Safariland 567, unfortunately I believe Safariland may have stopped making this line of holsters. The made a small variety of these with each one being able to fit a fairly broad range of similar shape/size handguns. The model I have can be adjusted to fit most 4-inch K & L frames and the GP100 and similar. I also have one for a 5-inch N-frame.

index.php

It's a hybrid construction, leather body/lining with a thermal formed polymer frame on top of that and a stiff rubber belt loop attached to the back. It uses the Tek-lok screw pattern so you can replace the belt loop with a paddle or Tek-lok compatible mounts. The back edge of the holster (along trigger guard and bottom of barrel) has an adjustable friction retention and an adjustable roller to press against the bottom of the barrel to ensure the revolver remain vertical in the holster. With a good stiff belt it is very comfortable as the stiff rubber belt loop has just enough flex to conform to your body while not letting the revolver flop on your hip during active movement.

That's a good rig.
I have always been a Bianchi fan . When I was carrying a .357 kframe I had a Bianchi 5L. I considered it perfect until I was flamed on THR for it's unprotected trigger. The thumbsnap covered the hammer, but you know....dangerous! Whew!

20160824_094659.jpg
It was a similar rig to yours....I regret trading it off!

Deer season is coming to an end for me and I will be heading to the Ozarks then Smokies for some hiking.

Sat in a couple of different stands while hunting yesterday.
My carry choices were my MarkV Weatherby in 7rm. A fixed blade Buck 105. I carried my Bond Arms Rowdy 45/410, my Rowdy was feeling neglected because I haven't carried it recently. 20221125_070344.jpg
