Powder supply

There has to be a powder price that gets the 9mm and 223 guys out of the game. The current price of loaded has come way down and one would hope that the bulk loaders see this and switch.

I'm currently loading .223 for $7.25 per 20 rounds, so I'll keep going. But I also have plenty of powder for it, so somebody else can buy what they need.

I don't load for 9mm, yet, but have everything needed to get started.

It's getting close...

I do load for 9mm, and have for over 3 decades. However, I also have a case or three of factory around, because...well, because.

I recently purchased a case (1k rounds) of 124gr fmj for $260 delivered, all in. 26¢/Rd.

Let's look at replacement costs -

Figure 10¢ for a primer, 10¢ for a bullet. How much for powder? 3¢? 4¢?

We're getting close to the reloading cost crossing the 'buy new' cost on the graph.

Went to Cabelas today. Lots of lb and 8 lb jugs, Auto comp. H335, Tac X=terminator Tac, TCM, HP 38 etc Bought the X=term. $31.95. BUT, still NO primers.
The last few weeks, my local Bass Pro (which used to be a Cabela's) has had lots of primers. It had been a long dry spell, but they have been well stocked lately. CCI, Fed and Win (only #41's in Win). And they are staying on the shelves. Price is generally $90 per K, more for the bench rest stuff. Not sure if there is a limit. I am not buying at that price, as I'm well stocked and will wait for the prices to come down. But it's good to see. Lots of powder too.

I bought all of my stuff at much cheaper than current prices, so it'll still take some doing for factory ammo to be cheaper than my reloads. But even if it were the same, I'd keep reloading. First, because my loads are tuned for best performance out of my guns and for the recoil and reduced muzzle flash that we like. And second, because I enjoy reloading.

Well I stopped into my favorite supply house, Jay's in Clare MI this past weekend.......whole Lotta not much, but they did have lots of 1 pounders of IMR 4227, something I've been wanting to try in my 45 Colt loads.
Well, i left it behind, because when i looked at that price tag, i nearly filled me boxers...$64/lb. The Ramshot line was a bit more reasonable, and of course, no Reloder 22 or 23. Primers.....they aint been a pack of primers on them shelves for a long time.
I reckon the Bisley and the Super Red just gonna have to enjoy all the No.9, True Blue, and a couple others I have on hand. 64 an elbow isn't even what I'd call gouging...that bloody robbery

At colt pressures your going to like #9 more than 4227 and may want something faster like herco so you have less unburnt powder.
