Who bought the last guns you sold?

I have sold only one firearm.
A 760 in 270. A nice rifle. The only one I’ve never shot. A 1984 model.

A family friend’s adoptive parents passed away and there were some firearms left. The “bad” son stormed in the house a day after the mother was removed to rest, demanding his guns and angry no one called him sooner to pick them up so they didn’t disappear.
They were not very nice, a working man’s rifles. And they weren’t his, and were pawned the very day, witnessed by a younger brother with a motorbike and nothing better to do.

Well, our friend wanted her older brother, Ray, also adopted, the six of them were, to have one of Dad’s guns. He hunts and often took the dad to New York to his property. Traveling, he always used Ray’s rifles. Ray had never seen any of his foster dad’s firearms.

Crushed at the situation, she lit like a fire when I offered her the pump rifle I’ve never shot.
She was thrilled that it was pretty and knowing nothing of firearms, smiled vacantly as I showed off the rifle.
One scratch, nearly perfect bluing, only slightly worn at the edges. I told her I was looking for $800 or so because it was in very good shape and her face dropped.
She didn’t think it would be more than $3-400 for a rifle, but didn’t want a new one. She would pass this one off to Ray as “Dads Rifle”, and no one would be the wiser. But it was very much nicer than the Dad’s guns. (A lot, I saw pics. They were wet basement damaged H&R singles.) She didn’t want to low-ball me. But knew that a bolt action would be suspect.

I thought about the story.
“Well, $400 is the top of your budget, but I’ll let you have it for that, if you’d like.”

She was over the moon! I brought it to her shop and she said I was petting it before I left it with her. I said it was alright because it going to a good home.:D

First and foremost, I was able to help.
Ray, the only hunter, “was left” a very nice rifle by a man that chose to be his father, through a little sisterly magic. I found a loving home for a rifle that was lost in my safe.
And a dirtbag lost more of his family for $200 worth of rusty slug guns.

Well, that last part sucked but most of the tale was pretty good!:)

Who ever my FFL sold them to

I saw the writing on the wall in 2020 and the money was amazing. I let lose of my accumulation and I don't feel bad about it.

Yep thinned my herd and was happy...

I sold my retired Czech police CZ-82 (9mm Mak) to a C&R license holder. I presume he's a collector, and he got a good gun at a good price.

Last one I sold was a Taurus 809C. Gun was great, but a friend wanted it more than I did and paid me what I paid for it, so it went. I still have the full sized one.

Last transaction was a trade.
A fellow desperately wanted a rifle
I had that was sitting and I hadn't
shot or taken an animal with in some
years. It was a bit sentimental, but
I had already been selling a bunch of
personal items that were just sitting
and would probably get stolen and
end up in a pawn shop.
The fellow wanted to trade instead of
buy so I was kind of reluctant, but he
was wanting to trade a rifle that he
had to have given a premium for, and
wanted the rifle I had that I had bought
for a song years before. He had what I
wanted but just didn't know it, and he
was ecstatic to get the older model
rifle I had. After a little TLC I put his
old rifle in the shape I wanted it to be
and it was a tack driver at the range.
I don't feel like I got over on him in
any way, we both got what we wanted
for a simple friendly trade, and were
both happy with the deal

Last actual sale was some of the
previously mentioned dust gathering
shotguns and rifles that I hadn't used
in a while. The man was thrilled to
get them at a decent price instead of
the recent gouging prices that many
have charged the last couple of years.
I had more use for the money and
he got what he wanted.

Last few years I've decided to get
rid of any gun I had that I couldn't
remember the last time I'd used it.
Seldom worn jewelry, watches,
expensive knives that I was reluctant
to carry and use, etc.
Too many dopers and pinhead thugs
around these days. No sense letting
them steal my stuff and sell it for
pennies on the dollar at a pawn shop

My dealer who sells at gun shows....or used to. I think he went out of business due to health issues. He could flip a pistol pretty fast if it was in good condition. I think I sold him more than one. ;)

I bought a pristine copy of Mr. Snyder's book off of E-bay. It turned out that he was the seller, said he was selling a copy that he'd kept for his daughter, and for some reason that I don't recall, they didn't need it.

Hope you got Walt to sign them for you. He's a great guy ... little bitty fella, super engaging. No one knows more about Ithacas than does he. I mean any and all of them, not just the 37s.

It's been awhile since I've spoken with him, I need to give him a call. He's getting-on-up-there in years.

He did sign it. I'm sure it'd be great to get to talk to him about the guns and the history of the company. The book is very good, and beyond the guns themselves, getting a glimpse of the factory back in the day was very interesting to me. A couple years ago I found an online diary from a guy who visited the old factory and made photos and wrote about what he found. I can't locate it at the moment, but it made me wish I could find more info and detail about the old days there.

I like my Model 37s, but I really wish I had one of their nice double barrel guns from back in the day. As nice as a good Model 37 is, some of their double guns are amazing in terms of the level of craftsmanship from a company like Ithaca. I was first introduced to Ithaca shotguns by my brother-in-law who picked up a 12 gauge Flues double for $25 (the steal of the century!) at a yard/estate sale. I was shocked at what a nice, quality gun it was.
