Not trying to make waves, ruffle feathers, etc. but forced reset trigger company Rare Breed is selling off the wares of its former rival (the WOT, Wide Open Trigger) it bested in a patent suit a month or so back at a discounted price and without warranty and so on. Given the murky legal waters such FRTs occupy at present I am in no way recommending anyone buy one but find it bizarre and worthy of notice that Rare Breed is doing so. So Happy Black Friday and so on.... N.L.

I want one, but only as a face to face cash deal with no information exchanged. Just install it into a lower and put it away

The only reason for these types of triggers is to have a faster rate of fire while staying legal. If you can't go out and use these at a public range because the ATF and various ranges think it's not legal, then what's the point? If all you care about is shooting faster, illegal modification is far easier.

They certainly aren't giving them a ringing endorsement.

  • SPECIFICATIONS & FEATURES:
    • Made from Hardox™ steel, the WOT is fully cast to include the housing.
    • While not guaranteed, the WOT was designed to be compatible with many mil-spec and commercial-spec AR-15’s.
    • Approximate trigger pull weight of 3-4 lbs.
    • Full-auto bolt carrier required.
    • Heavy Buffer (H2 or H3) required.
    • Anti-walk pins may or may not be included.

  • NOTES:
    • It is unreasonable to expect the WOT to be a true drop-in, plug-and-play trigger. In most cases tuning will be required.
    • Rare Breed Triggers is NOT the manufacturer of the WOT.
    • The WOT was manufactured in Bosnia by a separate entity.
    • As the WOT is being sold at this extremely discounted price, there will be no returns, no refunds, no exchanges, no repairs: No exceptions.

I tried one of these Echo triggers about a month ago. It didn't really blow my hair back, the guy who owned the rifle and had alot more experience with it than I did, didn't seem particularly skilled with it. I was thinking what's the point. If I want to spray lead quickly I can brace the weapon against my hip and loop my finger through the ol belt loop but I have no desire to do so.

Is there any practical application for these FRT's or are they purely gimmick?

Have you a link, Neo?
I can’t find it on the Rare Breed website, just a bunch of videos. I hate videos.

If they’re on sale and not too expensive…

Purely, ear to ear, joy inducing, gimmickry. I think. That’s why I bought my Binary trigger, too darn fun not to.
I missed my chance for a bump stock.
I’ll never be able to afford an automatic.
My Franklin is fun and close enough.:) Absolutely a ball with an AR22!
And fundamentally legal.;)

I think these toe the line awfully hard. But I’d like one, they’re only for playtime anyway.
One bullet too many is murder on a self defense argument.(Pun!:D)
I don’t know of any competitions that these would be useful, or allowed.
Probably frowned upon for hunting…

Hog Hunting perhaps?

Not recommending anyone buy these, etc. I have tried one in a carbine length AR a few months back
and it did work with a heavier buffer. But legality aside it's a gimmick, a novelty. But yes...it was fun!

Thank you, @Neo-Luddite. I was probably just blind.:D

While I can approve of the “War Chest” play of the use of the profits, I don’t know that I would buy one with that giant warning not to, that @hso posted above.

It reads worse on their site.

Parts may or may not be included? That kinda makes the mark of the persona of the company. They can’t be bothered to even inspect the product they were awarded with in their suit?
That tarnished their own name, not WOT’s reputation.
I mean, jeez, did they actually want to sell these things or not?

(Well yeah! Duh! Didn’t you see all our super tactical videos?! There is a Buy It Now button at the bottom of every one of them. No, we don’t have a site map, it’s just the one thing. That’s just how 2A tactical we are man!:p)

However.

IF the trigger was operational, IF all the parts were there, and IF they aren’t confiscated upon delivery, $199 is not bad for a trigger with its, uh, unique features.
I believe I got a screaming deal on my Franklin for, I think, ~$217, and the Elftmann was over $300 all in.

I find it interesting that a cartridge trigger would not be drop in capable, as well.
A gunsmith for an AR? Are they serious?
(I know they just have to cover their flanks for all the “custom” ARs and parts, and “operators”, out there…;))

As an aside, the WOT was determined to be much too close a copy of the FRT for copyright standards. What makes their trigger so not-terrible? The extra $180?:)

Still, very interesting…

What?! No! I am absolutely NOT justifying gambling my hard earned cash on a Tight shirt Tactical Tommy by night company for a silly Christmas gift for myself!

Well, maybe a little…

I got to shoot a RareBreed a few months back--fun. Mostly useless but (as a former poster said) I'll never be able to afford a Class III weapon and I missed out on the opportunity to own a bump stock. Why do i want one? Maybe because the Feds consistently say "you can't have one".

Anywho, back then I went to their website to order one and it says, nah...but you can get on our waitlist and we'll get back to you when we're ready to sell you one.

I have been on RareBreed's waitlist for several months now, without so much as an acknowledgement of that status...I may have to buy one of these "just 'cause".

I like the fact that they say what the proceeds will be used for, and since I'm likely already on "someone's list"...why not?

Anyone thinking about purchasing a Rare Breed trigger may want to watch this video first and think long and hard about it. I'd hate to see someone end up in Club Fed for purchasing something they thought was legal. We do not have a hobby the Feds like and we are the enemy to them.

You mean the Brain, right?:D
The point about using the funds to fight tyranny pleads heavily to the other, um, part, that often finds me trouble…
I wonder if the feds had them put that in?

They almost had me. But I just can’t afford to feed it, and I’m rather good at my binary. Oh, I mean, it’s arbitrarily deemed imprudent by a corrupt agency that is illegal at its core, yeah that’s it, legalities, that’s what’s stopping me….;)

(No, chest thumping aside, I don’t poke bears or hornet nests. The endless litigation is what I can’t afford. The oppression. That is the power.)
