I took out a small batch of revolvers today so I could balance out the Thanksgiving trip with the autos. I grabbed four S&W’s; the .22 LR Model 18, the .44 Mag L frame Model 69, and two Model 14-3’s, a 8 3/8” and my formerly 8 3/8” that was cut to 5” when a bulge was found from the previous owner sticking a bullet near the muzzle. (Gary Reeder did the work on it for me.) I brought two Rugers as well, the .45 Colt Blackhawk I bought last month and the SP 101 .327.

It started off goofy, as I forgot to grab rimfire rounds and didn’t want to pay the 125% upcharge for a box of the range ammo. No Model 18 to warm up with. :fire:

Started the SP 101 with .32 H&R loads, a 100 gr WC and a 115 gr RNFP. Those shot well, but I had a couple of instances of failures to reset the trigger. (I had previously installed a Wilson Combat spring kit with a reduced power trigger return spring.) Just great! I shot some 18-shot groups DA at 10 yds, WC upper left, RNFP center, a .327 load with the 115 gr RNFP lower. Well, despite the trigger return issue at least I hit the target :). (Tonight I put the OEM trigger spring back in.)

The long barreled S&W was next, firing a 148 gr WC, a150 gr long-nose SWC and a 158 gr traditional SWC. The gun shot great with the WC, the rest just OK for me. I admit I am not a fan of the factory grips, but they look so good I keep them on.

I then shot the 5” 14-3 against the 8 3/8” model. 150 gr long nose SWC on top, standard SWC on bottom. Man, the 5” sight picture and grips were nice! I must say that this is a really smooth shooting gun that hits just about POA/POI when it came back. (The middle target was a hodge podge of leftover rounds just to get rid of the dregs.)

I then broke out the Model 69. My usually accurate load of a 200 gr RNFP over 7.3 gr Unique wasn’t too good in this gun. (The GP-100 and Blackhawk .44 Spls. love this load.) In the 69 it was all over the place. Then I fired a 240 gr JHP over 11 gr Unique in .44 Mag cases. Other than my crappy flinch tossing one high and two low, I put the other 13 pretty much through one ragged hole. :) Recoil with this load in the L frame was sort of brisk, but not abusive.

Of course, right when I got done with these two loads the pool repair guy I had scheduled for the afternoon decided to call and try to job me for a $2,300 pool pump replacement rather than the electrical line troubleshooting I asked for.

:cuss:

I told him thanks but no thanks, packed up without shooting the Blackhawk, went to Home Depot for $78 bucks worth of 12 ga wire and waterproof conduit, and spent 90 minutes rewiring everything and fixing it myself before the drizzle started. I guess my next trip will be a CZ fest, as I am picking up two more CZ’s tomorrow, then the trip after will be a single action morning.

Stay safe.

I have nothing to add other than I also took a revolver to the range yesterday. I fired my S&W 27-8 Lew Horton about 75 times today-a mix of Norma 158gr .38 FMJ, some PPU .357 FMJ, and one cylinder of .357 Federal Hi-Speed 125gr JSP.

I didn't take any pictures but I am always amazed at how accurate my revolvers are when compared to my semi autos. The other two guns I took were a Sig P220 and a Glock 20. While both of those guns are plenty accurate they don't compare at all to the 27.

Oh and nice shooting.

If you want something done right........
Nice shooting.
I have been watching GB for an investment/ shooter .22 s&w revolver. I thought I had found it last night for only $700. When I checked it this morning I realized IT WAS JUST THE BOX!:what:

And the Model 18 ?
It went home clean. Unfortunately the range charges something like $7.00 a box for Aguila Super Extra. Since I was daffy enough to load all the ammo but .22 LR in my backpack, I passed on buying those expensive rounds and shooting it this time. :(

Stay safe.

Yeesh! Must’ve been the pure gold-foil wrapping inside that was rare as a Wonka Bar for that price!
Folks are asking $700 for the boxes, eh? I may have to cash in a few of those to help fund my vintage motorcycle purchase…

Stay safe.
