My Ruger American

Got an Am Ranch in .300bo and a Predator in 6.5Grendel, both are AR mag versions.
I think Ruger bolts were the best deal going before the prices jumped from $440 to $660 overnight,
Some will rag on the plastic stock but I've picked up a Ranch with a Boyd's stock and it's a lot heftier. I'll stick to light & portable, thank you.
I know some don't care for the mag hanging down but it's been a 100% reliable setup in both calibers. I run mostly 10 rounders but the option for 15, 17 or 20 round capacity is there if needed. And I made a short 'almost flush' 6 round mag for the .300bo from an OKAY 10 round mag.

My most expensive one was a 300 blk ar mag American ranch at 500 bucks. Great little rifle, and luckily the 6.5 Grendel American predator was even cheaper! Also building a 221 fireball out of another one, and my wife's next hunting rifle will probably be a 6.5 creedmoor. I love em.

I own the RAP in 6.5 CM, paid short of $500.00. Agree with the above statements, cheap, reliable, fairly light, and very accurate. When I do my homework, I get 0.5-0.7 MOA with factory ammo all day.

I came late to the party and recently paid about $535 for my Predator 6.5 Grendel. I must say its been a pleasant surprise even though every review that I saw before I bought it reported great accuracy out-of-the-box. @LoonWulf said that he had several that approached 1/2 moa which convinced me to take a chance. Shots 16-20 out of the new rifle with Nosler 120 BT factory ammo produced a 0.56" group. Initial hand loads show promise to be as good if not better than that.

Ruger engineered a great shooter at the price point. They have certainly figured out the Cold Hammer Forging process to make an accurate barrel, 5R rifling with the chamber precisely forged into the barrel from the get-go. The stock is cheap looking but the bedding system, where the action is mated with steel v-blocks molded into the stock, is another feature that contributes to the accuracy potential. The trigger is a clone of the Savage Accutrigger. I immediately bought a Wesbaun spring kit which reduced the pull to 2 1/2#, less than advertised 1.5#, but still a pretty good trigger IMO (my Savage Accutrigger was easily adjusted down to 2 1/2# without any aftermarket parts). I know many don't like the Accutrigger but I always thought that it was a good compromise to get a nice, crisp breaking, easily adjustable trigger on a factory rifle.

I'm still trying to figure out if I like the AR magazines. I've been running a 5 shot.223 mag w/ a single round follower for shooting from the bench. If I ever get a companion 6.5G AR they will serve double duty.

I like mine, it's the all weather compact and a fellow THR member was kind enough to send me a newer style predator stock with a LOP that suits my frame better than the compact, but still keeps the rifle nice and handy with 20" bbl.

The only negative thing is it wont shoot, or perhaps I can't shoot better than 1.5moa out of it unless I am using 120gr NBT's. It's a 7-08. Definitely minute of deer and maybe if I handloaded or was a better shot I could expect sub moa. I only make the gripe because it's pretty typical for me to see people tout their RAR's as being sub moa out of the box.

I would like to get to the bottom of it though, I suspect that if it was me though, I would know it. Still a good rifle imo, I've had it quite a while and was a lil soured on it for a bit because I expected better accuracy but it could just be that particular rifle only likes 120gr........

I wish they made it with a adjustable stock , similar to a AR and it accepted AK mags . IMO it would be a big seller , especially with all of the AWB talk .

This is a fun combo in 243.

This is mine as well.... right down to the stock cuff. I've taken my last two deer with it and my reloads. All I've done is clearanced the barrel a little and stiffened the forearm. I've lightened the adjustable trigger as well. Shoots great and has become my foul weather deer rifle.

I wanted a bolt .22 Mag so I went with the rimfire version in .22 WMR. I added a Boyds laminated stock and it has been a really nice shooter.

Not match winning accuracy, but it’ll hit minute of varmint out a ways. (50 yds off a rest)

I think the American is one of the best rifle deals out there.

Stay safe.

That stock makes that American look sharp. Looks like a better quality gun.... I'm trying to think of how mine would look with wood stock with my compact matte stainless finish.... Nice Ruger

I've been thinking about an inexpensive bolt in 6.5 Grendel. I like the American Predator but the Howa mini-action has my attention. Are there advantages to the Ruger?

For me it was only availability. And a little cheaper. The howa rifles I've owned were great, but the Grendel I wanted was the chassis gun, and it cost more at time of purchase than the Ruger and a chassis. Never got around to the chassis. Maybe some day

I have the Howa mini and love it with one exception.
The magazines are cheap plastic with no aftermarket option for something better.
I'll be replacing mine with an internal box mag. The other negative is its heavy as hell but I suppose I did that with the Boyds stock and the scope I chose. I bought mine as a stripped action from Brownells.
With that it shoots better than I do.
