I mentioned wanting one of the new Automags but they are way out of my price range. Maybe when Dick and Ed show up with the check for the $10 million bucks.

Yeah, AutoMags are very expensive. Plus, you have to load load your own ammo if you expect them to work. Plus, if you buy one of the early ones, it's likely to be full of burrs and sharp edges and won't function worth a damn.
The last TDE I bought was so tight that I couldn't get the bolt back without pushing the muzzle against a workbench. I got it cleaned up and now it's 100%.
The thing with early AutoMags is, they always go up in value, so you won't lose money. Not sure I can say the same for the new ones.

The new Automags have had alot of the problems of the earlier models corrected. As far as ammo not sure if any factory loaded ammo is avaible.

The early ammo, made by CDM in Mexico, was loaded too light and wouldn't cycle the guns. A more-or-less standard .44AMP load is a 240 gr JHP over 26.0 gr of WW296 with a CCI350 primer in Starline brass. Velocity is around 1580fps in a 6 1/2" barrel and will break 1700 in my 10 1/2" barrel.
The 180 gr Sierra / 32.5 / WW296 / CCI350 clocks 2010fps out of the 10 1/2" tube. I imagine there would be a lot of meat damage with that load!

Don't forget about the Grizzly mongo sized 1911 for .44 Mag. Expensive, rare and by my experience a bit finicky.

Prefer my .44 Mag in revolver and/or lever gun but hey, I'm a dinosaur...
I had only seen the .45 Win Mag versions. The .44 Mag looks like a Coonan on steroids!

Stay safe.
