I just saw on Reddit that Canik is releasing a Rival steel frame package. It is supposed to have an MSRP of $900. I do not know when it will be released.

I think we will be seeing more steel/aluminum framed pistols as most of the western world tries to choke off petroleum production. This is forward thinking by firearm manufacturers.

Here's the polymer version that's already out. They are good guns with very nice trigger pulls. I have two caniks.

The Rival has noticeably less recoil, and is flatter shooting than most other striker 9mm's, the metal frame probably even less. I'll be getting one for sure.

I have 2 Caniks , a TP9SF and a TP9DA. They work great and are reliable. They are also $300 guns. A metal Canik striker gun to me is not worth much more. I imagine that the all metal guns are only a few dollars more to make. Turkish gun makers are still making a pretty good profit off these polymer ones and the all metal ones at $900 will be a huge profit for them. All cut and polished on computer automated machines and milling machines. There isn't much human labor involved except maybe things such as putting the parts together. If I am gong to pay that much money , I'd buy an all steel hammer fired Beretta 92 .

All steel hammer fired Beretta 92 cost a lot more than $900. The steel performance 92x I think is running around $1400 to $1500. Regular Beretta 92 guns are aluminum framed.

Interesting shapes. When I saw this:

I immediately thought of the angular shape of the Star Destroyer spaceships from Star Wars.

In all seriousness, if the Canik can hold its own with the CZ Shadow 2 series and similar production target/competition guns, at that price point they’ll certainly sell a lot of them.

If someone gets one, let us know how it shoots. :)

Stay safe.

Eh, sorry I just can’t do Caniks

…or any Turkish handgun for that matter. Should be a good shooter though, if that’s your thing.

Out of curiosity, what are your reservations regarding Turkish handguns? I’m not judging, just curious if I’m missing something.

I have nothing against a Turkish 1911 or High Power clone. Plenty of spare parts from many suppliers, easily available mags. You won't get dead-ended when the Turkish factory moves on.

In double stack 9mm striker fired I'll stick with Glock or P320. Ubiquitous mags, lots of factory and aftermarket support. For a striker fired, double stack 9mm with 45oz weight I'll go with a P320 Legion with the tungsten infused frame. Same price as this fancy Canik with much better support and lots of sources for parts and mags. And it looks silly....

Why pay more for a Glock, M&P or Springfield when for the same or less you can get the Canik Rival?
Usually because they've never shot one. I'm at the range every weekend, and I usually offer to let at least one person shoot one. Same reaction every single time - thier mouths literally drop open. Then they always ask how much it costs. When I tell them less than $600, thier mouths drop open again, and they immediately look at thier gun. My shooting instructor and I always joke about it.

In these parts a 17/19/45 Gen5 MOS cost $650 and comes with 3 mags, 4 MOS plates and 4 backstraps. I just don't see why I'd buy a Canik instead.

Because it comes with a way better trigger! Better trigger means more hits on target. The reset on the Canik Rival is really really short.

I have a Canik TP9 Elite SC and love it. And I have to agree that the Canik trigger is way better than any Glock trigger I have used to include aftermarket triggers. And yes I own a few Glocks and Glock clones that I built.

I own multiple Glocks. Caniks produce better accuracy, have far better triggers, and are just as reliable as Glocks (moreso if you consider that Glocks can be “limp-wristed” more easily). The Canik Rival (non-steel) retails for $630-690 depending on variant and has probably the best striker-fired trigger ever created. That is Canik’s most expensive pistol, pending the steel frame variant’s release. You can find brand new TP9SFX pistols for under $500 on the primary market (look at Dahlonega Armory and elsewhere). The Canik TP9 Elite SC routinely sells for under $400, but is usually priced around $430. It is comparable to a Glock 26 MOS, but is more accurate, more ergonomically friendly, features a much better trigger, and is just a better gun in my experience. I’m not saying that Glocks are bad; instead, I’m trying to show that dollar for dollar, you get more when you go with Canik.
